Tribe Opens Duke Invitational with Strong Multis Performances

DURHAM, N.C. — William & Mary track & field opened competition at the Duke Invitational with a strong showing in the multis over the first two days at Morris Williams Stadium.

On the men's side, Brian Walsh led the way in the decathlon, finishing fourth overall with 6,489 points. The junior highlighted his performance by setting a William & Mary decathlon high jump record, clearing 1.90m (6-2.75) as part of a consistent effort across all 10 events. Walsh added strong marks in the long jump (7.07m) and 1500m (4:39.74) to cap the competition.

Matthias Oettl also competed in the decathlon, recording marks in the 100m (11.74), long jump (5.36m), shot put (11.24m), high jump (1.72m), 400m (54.19), 110m hurdles (21.51) and discus (31.88m) before not finishing the event.

On the women's side, Jolie Brassell represented the Tribe in the heptathlon, totaling 4,004 points to finish 20th overall. The sophomore posted solid marks across the seven events, including a season-best 16.68 in the 100m hurdles and a 27.82 in the 200m. She added a 5.15m (16-10.75) effort in the long jump and closed the competition with a time of 2:38.10 in the 800m.

William & Mary will continue action at the Duke Invitational on Friday and Saturday with a full slate of track and field events. Friday's schedule includes field events beginning at 9:30 a.m. and track prelims starting at 3:15 p.m., followed by distance races in the evening. Saturday features a full day of competition, including finals on the track beginning at noon and continuing through the 4x400 relays.
