Dear Tribe Tennis Family and Friends,
In this unsettled time, the values that unite us are what allow us to continue to move forward, together.
I'd like to believe our William & Mary student-athletes are uniquely prepared for the challenges ahead, as we have a culture that embraces uncertainty, meets challenges creatively and pushes past barriers.
Our season ended abruptly – and lacked the kind of closure that is so typical in anyone's athletic experience. No victory celebrations or working through the disappointment of defeat. Where we would have shared this experience together – and grown stronger from either outcome – now we are separated for the greater good.
But, will remain TOGETHER and find ways to remain connected to each other and continue to build a program that will pursue championships.
As I have time to reflect on the season, I am filled with both incredible pride and joy for how far this team has come, heartfelt thanks to all the Seniors across all the sports programs for how they represented William & Mary this past year, and of course sadness for our Senior,
Brenden Volk, and the other Seniors who will not get the chance to see a conclusion to all their dedication and sacrifice throughout these past four years.
To our Senior,
Brenden Volk, I would like to say thank you. Thank you for all of your hard work, sacrifice, perseverance, and most of all, leadership that you have shown throughout the years. The memories that you have made and the bonds you have formed with your teammates will last forever. Although you were not able to compete for a championship this year, the legacy you leave will shape the program's future moving forward.
At our last team meeting, I spoke to the team about seizing the day, Carpe Diem. It may sound cliché, but we now know that everything can change in the blink of an eye. Seize the day in every aspect, whether that be in academics, athletics, friendships, or overall relationships.
We recruit student-athletes to William & Mary with the goal of making them the future leaders of the world. All leaders demonstrate adaptability and resiliency, two of our core values for the men's tennis team. As difficult a time as this may be, what a great opportunity to put these core values in place. Ever the optimist, I am incredibly excited to see how the young men on our team face this challenge head on and demonstrate through example why they truly are the future leaders of this country. May you continue to represent William & Mary with utmost pride!
Go Tribe!!
