The William & Mary women's track & field team piled up a huge number of impressive performances on Friday at the Navy Select meet, collecting five ECAC qualifiers in addition to a school record, freshman record, and a total of 14 new entries on the Tribe's record books.
- Leading the way as she has for the last three years was redshirt-junior
Victoria Gersch (Mercer Island, Wash.), who broke her own year-old record in the 400m dash by running 55.81 seconds for the win. That was also an ECAC qualifier for Gersch. Freshman
Carly Swierbut (Newtown, Conn.) was second overall in 56.64 seconds, the 12th-fastest race in school history.
- Gersch and Swierbut were back at it later in the 200m dash. Gersch ran 24.81 seconds, the second-fastest time ever at W&M, for second overall and another ECAC qualifier, and Swierbut broke her own freshman record with a fifth-place time of 25.10 seconds. That was the fifth-fastest race in school history, and ranks Swierbut second all-time among Tribe athletes. Her classmate
Amaya Johnson (Sterling, Va.) was sixth in 25.24 seconds, the seventh-fastest race in school history, and senior
Gabby Runge (Midlothian, Va.) ran the eighth-fastest race ever, 25.36 seconds, for seventh overall. Johnson now ranks third all-time among athletes, and Runge fourth.
- In the 500m dash, redshirt-junior
Susanna Maisto (Silver Spring, Md.) was third in 1:14.72, an ECAC qualifier and the 12th-fastest single race ever at W&M.
- Senior
Alexis Brender a Brandis (Williamsburg, Va.) saved her best for last in the triple jump, jumping a lifetime-best 12.15m (39-10.5) on her sixth and final attempt. That won the event, and also re-qualified Brender a Brandis for the ECAC Championships. That was the seventh-longest jump ever at W&M, and ranks Brender a Brandis second all-time among W&M athletes.
- In the weight throw, freshman
Keeley Suzenski (Fleetwood, Pa.) improved her lifetime-best by nearly 70 cm, placing eighth overall with a throw of 13.44m (44-1.25). That improved her to 11th all-time among W&M throwers.
- In the other throwing event, the short put, sophomore
Chelsea Wallace (Chesapeak, Va.) placed third overall, with a put of 13.12m (43-0.5).
- Another third came in the pole vault, where junior
