RICHMOND, Va. – The William & Mary women's tennis team garnered the top seed in the Colonial Athletic Association Championship for the fifth-straight season, the league announced on Monday. The four-time defending champion Tribe, who have been the top seed in 17 of the last 22 seasons, meets the winner of Wednesday's first-round match between No. 8 UNCW and No. 9 Hofstra at 9 a.m., on Thursday, April 18. Elon University hosts the CAA Championship for the fourth consecutive season at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center, April 17-20.
 
The Tribe has won 26 of the 34 women's tennis championships in the history of the CAA. The Green and Gold claimed the league crown in each of the last four seasons. W&M has won 13-straight matches against CAA competition and is 141-18 (.887) all-time versus league opponents. In matches with current CAA teams, the Tribe is 85-4 (.955) all-time and 64-3 (.955) with those teams as members of the league.

W&M is 7-13 on the year after playing a schedule that featured six major conference opponents and four teams currently in the national top 50. The Tribe is 3-0 against league opponents this season winning at both Elon (5-2) and James Madison (4-3) along with a home win over Delaware (7-0).
 
JMU is the No. 2 seed in the CAA Championship followed by Charleston, Elon, Drexel, Delaware, Towson, UNCW and Hofstra. The Seahawks and the Pride start things off in the first round at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center. W&M faces the winner on Thursday at 9 a.m., and Elon squares off with Drexel at the same time. The other quarterfinal match-ups between the Dukes and Tigers as well as the Cougars and Blue Hens commence at 1 p.m.
 
The CAA Semifinals are set for 10 a.m., on Friday with both matches being played simultaneously. The CAA Championship match is scheduled for 10 a.m., on Saturday, April 20. The winner of the CAA Championship will earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
