RICHMOND, Va. – The William & Mary women's tennis team swept the Colonial Athletic Association weekly awards for the week of March 4, the league announced on Wednesday afternoon. Freshman
Mila Saric was named the CAA Tennis Player of the Week, while senior
Clara Tanielian and sophomore
Vitoria Okuyama were tabbed the doubles team of the week.
Saric, who won her second weekly singles honor and third overall this season, extended her winning streak to four with a pair of victories last week. Competing at the No. 3 slot, she clinched W&M's 4-2 triumph over Big Ten foe Maryland by outlasting the Terps' Anastasia Gevel, 6-2, 4-6, 6-0. The freshman followed with a 6-1, 6-3 triumph over Hannah Davies of Memphis, which put the Tribe up 2-1 in the match against the Tigers. For the season, Saric is a team-best 8-3 in dual-match competition.
Tanielian and Okuyama clinched the doubles point in both of the Tribe's matches last week. Competing at the No. 1 spot, the duo defeated Maryland's Eva Alexandrova and Millie Stretton, 6-4. They followed with another 6-4 triumph over Alisha Reayer and Aleks Topalovic of Memphis. Tanielian and Okuyama are 4-1 at the No. 1 position and have clinched the doubles point in three of the past four matches.
The pair of awards gives the Tribe four weekly awards this season. Saric was also named the player of the week for the week of Feb. 11, while she and junior
Natalia Perry earned the doubles team of the week for the week of Jan. 28.
W&M returns to action with a match against CAA counterpart Delaware on Saturday, March 16. First serve from Williamsburg is set for 11 a.m.
