WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (Jan. 25, 2019) – The William & Mary women's gymnastics team will open its 2019 home slate when it hosts Towson at Kaplan Arena on Saturday at 4 p.m.
The meet will be part of a double dual with the Tribe men's gymnastics team.

A LOOK AT THE TRIBE
The Tribe opened its 2019 slate with a second-place finish at a quad meet hosted by Towson last weekend. NC State claimed the team title with a 194.600 and was followed by W&M (192.150), Towson (191.975) and Cornell. (191.725). The Tribe's score marked the second-best season-opening mark in head coach

Samantha Sakti highlighted the Tribe's individual efforts in her collegiate debut by winning the floor title with a 9.925, which equaled a school record and helped her earn ECAC Rookie of the Week accolades. Additionally, the impressive score currently ranks tied for seventh in the country.
SCOUTING TOWSON
Towson, which will compete in its third meet of the season on Saturday, is coming off a third-place finish at a quad meet it hosted last weekend and currently owns a team average of 191.050. Emerson Hurst leads the Tigers and currently ranks first in the EAGL on beam (9.875), while Ally Wesoly ranks fourth in all-around (38.438).

SAKTI HONORED AS ECAC ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
After posting a tremendous performance in her collegiate debut at the season-opening Towson quad meet,
Samantha Sakti was selected as the ECAC Rookie of the Week
on Jan. 23.
En route to helping W&M earn a second-place finish at the four-team meet, Sakti highlighted the Tribe's individual efforts by winning the floor title with a 9.925, which equaled a school record. In addition to her school-record performance, the Arcadia, Calif., native also posted the team's top score on vault with a 9.750.
TRADITION OF ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE
The W&M women's gymnastics team continued its tradition of achieving academic excellence last season when 10 Tribe standouts garnered Scholastic All-America distinction by the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women (NACGC-W). The squad's list of academic achievements also includes an NCAA Public Recognition Award for posting an APR in the top 10 percent nationally. During the last six years, Tribe gymnasts have combined to earn 58 NACGC Scholastic All-America honors.
HINTON SELECTED TO WECOACH 2018-19 COACHES COUNCIL
W&M assistant coach
Kelsey Hinton was selected to the WeCOAC 2018-19 Coaches Council earlier this fall. The 16-member Council, which represents 12 sports across NCAA Division I, II and III levels, high school, club and two-year colleges, will help ensure the organization is strategically serving women coaches from all sports and levels.
