The William and Mary women's swimming team beat Old Dominion 174-88 on Senior Day Saturday, completing its first undefeated season at home since 2002-03. The Tribe improved to 7-3 on the year with the win, while the Monarchs fell to 4-5 overall. The meet was also worth 10 points in the Optima Health Challenge, which W&M now leads 40-20 (first to 55 wins).
Complete ResultsAfter honoring its three seniors before the meet began, the Tribe got right to work with a dual-meet record in the first event. The team of
Sophie Rittenhouse (London, England),
Courtney Mizerak (Manassas, Va.),
Jessie Ustjanauskas (West Hartford, Conn.), and
Megan Howard (McLean, Va.) won the 200 medley relay in 1:45.21, the 12th-fastest time in school history. Howard would come back later in the meet to break the pool record and the Tribe dual-meet record in the 50 free with a blazing time of 23.14 seconds. She also won the 100 free in 51.49 to up her season total to 24 wins, and helped the 400 free relay of
Jaimie Miller (Houston, Texas),
Sara Schad (North Yarmouth, Maine), and senior
Jen Bentley (Jamestown, N.Y.) win in a time of 3:31.24.
Also winning a pair of events on the day was Ustjanauskas, who swept the butterfly events. She won the 200 fly in 2:06.94, and came back later to time 57.03 in the 100 fly. Senior
Devin Henry (Roanoke, Va.) picked up a win as well, closing out her career at home in the 400 IM with a time of 4:34.34. The Tribe's backstroke duo of Rittenhouse and
Liz Glenn (Greenwood Village, Colo.) switched off once again, each with a win and a silver. Rittenhouse won the 100 back in 57.38 seconds before finishing second in the 200 back, while Glenn reversed those placings with a winning time of 2:03.80.
Other notable swimmers on the day included sophomore
Jenny Lomicka (Henrico, Va.), who had a pair of second place showings in the two breaststrokes, and a third-place performance in the 400 IM. The freshman Miller also finished second twice, in the 50 free and the 100 free, and took fourth in the 200 free as well. Sophomore
Hannah Vester (Cincinnati, Ohio) took second in both of her events, the 1000 free and the 500 free. Rounding out the notables were two seniors; Bentley, who was third in the 200 free and fifth in the 500 free in addition to her relay win; and
Sara Shaner (Clarendon Hills, Ill.), who finished fourth in the 50 free.
William and Mary is back in action next weekend, traveling to East Carolina. The final dual meet of the season will begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 1, in Greenville, N.C.
