WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (July 2, 2013) – Former William and Mary standout RHP
John Farrell was selected as a first-team Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) All-Star on Tuesday afternoon.
Following an outstanding senior season in which he was chosen to the All-Colonial Athletic Association First Team, Farrell was recently drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 21st round of the 2013 Major League Baseball Draft and is currently pitching for the Hudson Valley Renegades in the Class A Short-Season New York-Penn League.
The Andover, Mass., native posted an 11-3 record with an ERA of 2.70 as a senior en route to becoming the first Tribe pitcher to win 10 or more games in a single season since Rosy Waugh accomplished the feat in 1938. Farrell also finished the season with 92 strikeouts and just 16 walks in 116.2 innings of work while holding opponents to a .258 batting average.
Farrell's list of 2013 postseason honors also includes a selection to the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) all-state first team.
