Five Members of Tribe Baseball Honored by VaSID

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William and Mary baseball head coach Jamie Pinzino was named the 2013 Virginia Sports Information Director's (VaSID) All-State Coach of the Year, the organization announced on Thursday.  Additionally, former W&M standout John Farrell along with sophomores Michael Katz and Jason Inghram took home first-team accolades, while junior second baseman Ryan Lindemuth garnered second-team distinctions.

Pinzino becomes the first W&M baseball coach to earn VaSID Coach of the Year honors, while Katz lands on the first-team for the second consecutive season.  Farrell, Inghram and Lindemuth are all first-time honorees.  Since 1992, 34 members of the Green and Gold program have accounted for 46 selections onto VaSID All-State squads.

Pinzino, who was the 2013 Colonial Athletic Association Co-Coach of the Year, led the Green and Gold to a school record 39 wins and its first-ever NCAA Tournament victories.  The first-year skipper led the Tribe to its first-ever NCAA Tournament at-large berth and its first appearance in the NCAA's since the 2001 season.

Former W&M RHP John Farrell earned a spot on the VaSID first-team after a historic season on the mound.  The CAA first-team selection became the first Tribe hurler to win 10 or more games in a single season since Rosy Waugh accomplished the feat in 1938.  The Andover, Mass., native finished the season with a record of 11-3 and an ERA of 2.70.  In 116.2 innings of work, Farrell fanned 92 batters and walked just 16, while holding the opposition bats to an average of .258.  Farrell was drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 21st round of the 2013 MLB Draft and is currently pitching for the Hudson Valley Renegades in the Class A Short-Season New York-Penn League.

Sophomore LHP Jason Inghram joined Farrell on the VaSID first-team as the Chesapeake, Va., native capped the 2013 season with a record of 9-6 en route to CAA third-team honors.  In 104.1 innings of action, Inghram compiled an ERA of 3.36 to go along with 99 strikeouts.  He led the CAA in batters fanned looking (40), while ranking second in strikeouts and fourth in wins.  Against George Mason on April 28, the southpaw was on the brink of becoming the fourth pitcher in program history to toss a no-hitter.  Inghram took the no-hit bid into the ninth inning before GMU connected on its first hit with one out.  He finished the contest against the Patriots with a career-high 15 strikeouts.  For his efforts, he was named a Louisville Slugger Collegiate Baseball National Player of the Week before garnering CAA Pitcher of the Week distinctions.

For the second consecutive season, sophomore first baseman Michael Katz lands on the VaSID first-team.  This season, Katz led the Green and Gold with an average of .358, which included 47 RBIs, 23 doubles, 49 runs scored and five home runs.  The Falls Church, Va., native was a CAA third-team selection as he compiled 20 multi-hit and 12 multi-RBI contests this spring.  He was named the CAA Player of the Week after batting .545 in the series against Hofstra, which included eight RBIs, five runs scored and a slugging percentage of 1.091.

A 2013 CAA second-team selection, junior second baseman Ryan Lindemuth cemented himself on the VaSID second-team after batting .351 to go along with 49 RBIs, 88 hits and 61 runs scored this season.  The Burke, Va., native was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 20th round of the 2013 MLB Draft as he led the Tribe in hits, runs batted in, triples (2), total bases (118), hit by pitch (23) and at bats (251).  Lindemuth led the Green and Gold in multi-hit (23) and multi-RBI (13) contests this season.  He reached base safely in 27 consecutive games this season as he went 4-for-5 with six RBIs, which included a home run in the Tribe's CAA Tournament game against Towson on May 24.
