URBANA, Ill. - Playing its second top-10 opponent in as many days, the William and Mary junior tandem of Maria Belaya and Jeltje Loomans dropped a three-set contest to the No. 3-ranked Nebraska team of Patricia Veresova and Mary Weatherholt in the Round of 16 at the NCAA Doubles Championship. The University of Illinois hosted the 2013 NCAA Championships at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex.

After the Cornhusker pair took the opening set in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (3), Belaya and Loomans won the final two games of the second set in pulling out a 6-4 win to force a decisive third set. Veresova and Weatherholt jumped out to a 3-0 advantage in the third, before the No. 13-ranked Tribe pair closed to within 4-2. The Nebraska team, thought, won the final two games in registering a 6-2 win. Veresova and Weatherholt will face the UCLA team of Robin Anderson and Skylar Morton, a 7-5, 6-4 winner over Kansas State's Karla Bonacic and Petra Niedermayerova, in the quarterfinal on Saturday.

Belaya and Loomans, who competed in their second straight NCAA Doubles Championship, fell to 23-5 on the season. The Green and Gold tandem picked up its eighth win over nationally-ranked competition, downing the No. 10-ranked Auburn duo in the opening round of the NCAA Championship on Thursday. With the setback on Friday, Belaya and Loomans finished one victory shy of All-America honors, which is guaranteed to teams advancing to the quarterfinals of the national tournament.

In head coach Tyler Thomson's first season, the Tribe finished the year at 17-6, winning the program's 22nd Colonial Athletic Association Championship. The Green and Gold was ranked as high as No. 25 during the season and earned its 19th NCAA Tournament appearance as a team. W&M sent a singles player (Belaya) and a doubles team (Belaya and Loomans) to the NCAA Individual Championships for the 19th time in the last 27 years. Five Tribe singles players and two doubles team earned All-CAA honors led by Belaya, who was the league's player of the year.
