The William and Mary field hockey team was honored for its academic achievement this week by the NFHCA, earning the team academic award and placing seven on the All-Academic team.  It is the sixth year in a row that the Tribe has been picked as one of the nation's top achieving teams in the classroom, and the sixth year in a row of having at least seven individual honorees as well.

Leading the way for the W&M student-athletes was the senior pair of Christine Johnson (Williamsburg, Va.) and Elizabeth Frey (Virginia Beach, Va.), who were each honored for the fourth year in a row.  Johnson, a marketing major, earned first-team All-State and second-team All-CAA accolades after scoring a career-high eight goals and five assists this season.  She tied the school record with four goals in the win over Davidson, and ranked second on the team with 21 points overall.  An international relations major, Frey was the Tribe's starting goalkeeper, recording four shutouts and 45 saves while carrying a 1.72 GAA.

Kinesiology-major Taylor Hodge (Louisville, Ky.) picked up her third All-Academic honor after scoring three goals and two assists in 2012, appearing in all 19 matches.  Cate Johnson (Charlottesville, Va.), Lindsey Buckheit (East Greenwich, R.I.), and Kelsea Hull (Fredericksburg, Va.) are all now two-time honorees following their sophomore campaigns, and junior midfielder Jesse Ebner (Sinking Spring, Pa.) earned her first appearance on the All-Academic squad after a two-goal, four-assist campaign last fall.
