Jeltje Loomans Named CAA Player of the Week

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - William and Mary women's tennis junior Jeltje Loomans took home the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week honor, the league announced on Tuesday. It marked the 10th weekly CAA honor in Loomans' career and her third singles player of the week award.

Loomans became the third Tribe singles player to garner CAA women's tennis Player of the Week distinction this season joining fellow junior Maria Belaya and freshman Leeza Nemchinov. Loomans picked up the award after recording two wins at No. 3 singles in W&M's road matches at No. 29 Rice and Houston. The junior outlasted Rice's Liat Zimmerman, 7-5, 4-6, 10-8 and then knocked off Houston's Rocio Martin Fernandez, 6-3, 6-3. Loomans, who has been named to the CAA Doubles Team of the Week on two occasions this season along with Belaya, improved to 10-8 overall and 9-6 in dual match competition.

The Tribe, which was No. 45 in the national rankings released on Tuesday, returns home to face No. 55 Georgia State on Friday, April 5. The match carries at 3 p.m. start time at the Millie West Tennis Facility.
