The William and Mary field hockey team rose one spot in the national rankings this week, improving to No. 19 in the Penn Monto/NFHCA National Coaches Poll. The NCAA RPI was not updated this week, leaving the Tribe No. 23 in that rating system.
W&M went 1-1 last weekend as the No. 20 team in the nation, falling in a tough, well-played match at then-No. 8 Northeastern, 3-2 before recording a 1-0 shutout against Hofstra on Sunday. The Tribe is now 8-2 overall and 1-1 in the Colonial Athletic Association, beginning conference play at 1-1 or better for the 26th time in 28 years.
William and Mary is back in action this weekend with a split weekend. On Friday night, the Tribe will host Delaware at 7 p.m. in a key early league match-up. Sunday, the Green and Gold take a short drive up I-64 to face longtime-rival Richmond, with opening tip at 1 p.m.
