Men's Swimming Seniors Lead W&M to Victory Against Delaware, 152-110

The William and Mary men's swimming class of 2012 came up big Saturday afternoon, leading their teammates to victory over Delaware 152-110 in the final home meet of their careers.  With the win, the first over Delaware since 2006, the Tribe improves to 4-4 overall and 3-1 in the Colonial Athletic Association while the Blue Hens fall to 5-4 and 1-4 in league action.

200 Medley Relay
The tone of the meet was set in the very first event, as the 200 medley relay team of Sidney Glass (Mechanicsville, Va.), Ben Ward (Maitland, Fla.), Andrew Strait (Henrico, Va.), and senior Stephen Fay (Herndon, Va.) won their race in 1:32.56.  It was the fifth-fastest medley relay ever at the College.

1000 Free
Freshman Lukas Dempsey (New Paltz, N.Y.) kept the good times rolling in the 1000 free, touching the wall in 9:46.03 to win by nearly three seconds.  Tyler Poling (Morristown, N.J.) was third in 9:53.24, and senior Luke Robbins (Charlottesville, Va.) was fifth in 10:05.49.

200 Free
Stephen Fay was back in the pool in the 200 free, winning his first individual event of the day in 1:42.82.  It was the 24th victory of Fay's career, moving him into a tie for 10th-place on the College's all-time wins chart with Jeff Collier '09.  Freshman Kemp Pettyjohn (Lynchburg, Va.) was third, timing 1:44.22.

100 Back
The fourth event and fourth win of the day went to Sidney Glass, who timed 51.77 seconds to beat the field in the 100 back.  Senior Jake Maloy (Culpeper, Va.) was fourth in 53.12 seconds.

100 Breast
Sophomore Andrew Strait added to his team-leading wins total in the 100 breast, swimming 57.45 seconds for victory.  Freshman Chris Dong (Chapel Hill, N.C.) was third in 58.90.

200 Fly
In the 200 fly, senior Evan Mulloy (Martinez, Ga.) earned the first of his two come-from-behind victories that led coach Matt Crispino '02 to name him the Tribe's Swimmer of the Meet.  Mulloy chased down his Blue Hens opponent over the final 25 yards and passed him at the wall, touching first in 1:53.76.  Junior K.J. Shaw (Richmond, Va.) was fourth in the race, timing 1:57.11.

50 Free
Junior Ben Ward kept the Tribe's win streak intact, a perfect 7-for-7 heading into the first intermission, with his very impressive 21.18 turn in the 50 free.  Sidney Glass was second in 21.55 seconds, and junior Hunter Perrot (Falls Church, Va.) was fourth in 21.78 seconds.

100 Free
Coming out of the break, Stephen Fay won his second race of the day and 25th of his career with a 47.09 showing in the 100 free.  Ben Ward was third in 47.96, and Luke Robbins rounded out the top five in 48.58 seconds.

500 Free
Kemp Pettyjohn got into the win column in the 500 free, cruising into the wall with a time of 4:40.18.  Kyle McVeigh (Jacksonville, Fla.) was fourth in 4:56.03, and Tyler Poling was fifth in 4:56.39.

100 Fly
Evan Mulloy came from behind again in the 100 fly, out-touching his opponent in 51.88 seconds for the win.  K.J. Shaw was third in 52.84 seconds.

400 IM
Andrew Strait also earned his second win of the day, this time in the 400 IM with a time of 4:05.24.  Kemp Pettyjohn was third in 4:15.03, and freshman Carter Head (Lynchburg, Va.) was fifth in 4:18.86.

200 Back
In the 200 backstroke, junior Evan Rutherford (Newport News, Va.) took the silver medal with a 1:54.11 performance.  Sidney Glass was fourth in the event, timing 1:56.63.

200 Breast
Freshman Chris Dong was the second-place finisher in the 200 breaststroke, touching the wall in 2:09.23.  Right behind him was Andrew Strait, who finished third in 2:10.53.

400 Free Relay
In the day's final event, the 400 free relay team of Ben Ward, Hunter Perrot, Luke Robbins, and Stephen Fay battled its way to second overall, timing 3:08.05 to put the final touches on the Tribe's team victory.

William and Mary brings the dual-meet season to a close next weekend, traveling north to take on Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
