FAIRFAX, VA - Senior captain
Kelly Reitz' (Chesapeake, Va.) NCAA "B" qualifying swim in the 200 breaststroke prelims highlighted a slew of key performances for William and Mary on the final morning of the Colonial Athletic Association Championships. The Tribe qualified seven athletes for the championship finals and three for the consolation finals in the 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, and 200 fly. Additionally, the 1650 free, which will be contested in the evening, features four swimmers from the College, including two seeded in the top eight.
Reitz' time in the 200 breast, 2:17.60, moved her closer to Ruth Anne Miller's school record of 2:15.79, and gave her the top seed in tonight's championship. It is also the first NCAA qualification of Reitz' career. Also qualifying for the championship final of the 200 breaststroke was freshman
Courtney Alles (Manassas Park, Va.), with a time of 2:23.85, the eighth-fastest time in school history. Already a two-time CAA Champion after capturing both individual medley titles this week, Alles is seeded sixth. Sophomore
Rebecca Brofft (Fairfax, Va.) qualified into the consolation finals, timing 2:28.81 for 15th.
Freshman
Erin Welshofer (Charlotte, N.C.) is the top seed in the 200 fly after setting the school record in the prelims with a time of 2:03.59. Sophomore
Whitney Pezza (Warrenton, Va.), the 2006 CAA Champion in the event, is seeded fourth after winning her preliminary heat in a season-best time of 2:05.77.
Freshman
Katie Radloff (Arlington, Va.) cruised to the top seed in the 100 free with an NCAA "B" qualifying time of 50.36. Senior captain
Marnie Rognlien (Nokesville, Va.) will join Radloff in the championship finals, after posting the morning's fifth-best time of 51.67.
In the 200 back, junior
Meredith David (Somerdale, N.J.) swam 2:04.54 to earn the second seed in tonight's finals and break Laura Bodine's five-year old school record in the event. Freshman
Laura Herrmann (Fairfax Station, Va.) timed 2:08.88 to qualify for the consolation finals, as did classmate
Suzanne Figuers (Cary, N.C.), who swam 2:09.18.
Tonight's finals will determine the champions of the 1,650 free, 100 free, 200 back, 200 breast, 200 fly, and 400 free relay; as well as the team championship.
