Swimming Breaks Seven Pool Records at Johns Hopkins

BALTIMORE — The William & Mary swimming teams broke seven pool records in a sweep of Johns Hopkins on Friday afternoon at the Barbara & Jerry Procton Pool in Baltimore. The Tribe won its dual meets by nearly identical scores, the men posting a 177-85 victory while the women won 176-85.

In the women's 400 medley relay, the Green & Gold broke a pool record with a first-place time of 3:46.48. Grace McCardle was the leadoff, followed by Sophia Heilen, Sammy Randell, and Healey Morgan.

The men's 200 free relay also set a Procton Pool-record time of 1:21.49 behind the efforts of Connor Vargas, Aiden Bond, Alex Valliere, and David Yune.

In individual events, W&M saw pool records from McCardle in the 100 back (55.27), Lindsay Juhlin in the 100 breast (1:03.00), and Flynn Truskett in the 100 free (50.68). In addition, Julie Addison delivered a facility-best in the 200 back with a time of 1:59.71, while Aiden Bond did the same in the 100 free with a time of 1:37.67.

The Tribe racked up 25 event victories on the day. In the 1000 free, W&M saw first-place finishes from Lauren Tucker (10:06.64) and Tyler Barritt (9:23.68).

Several younger swimmers picked up wins. Freshman Abby Emrich had a pair of victories in the 200 fly (2:06.79) and 200 IM (2:07.21). Randell also finished first in the 100 fly, clocking in at 55.45. 

In the 500 free, Vargas led the field with a time of 20.74. Thomas Duncan placed first in both the 200 back (1:48.67) and 200 IM (1:52.57). Rookie Claire Stuhlmacher won the 500 free, posting a time of 5:00.57.

The Tribe is set to compete at the Cavalier Invitational from Feb. 5-7 at the Aquatic and Fitness Center in Charlottesville.
