Women's 4x1600m relay team celebrates win at Colonial Relays

Track and Field Finishes Third for Both Men and Women at 59th Colonial Relays

WILLIAMSBURG, Va.— The William & Mary track and field program finished third out of 25 teams in both men's and women's action at the 59th annual Colonial Relays in Williamsburg.
 
Bucknell won the men's title with 139.5 points followed by Shippensburg at 113.5 and the Tribe at 93 points. Things on the women's side saw Virginia victorious with 124 points. Bucknell finished with 120 points in second ahead of the Tribe's 113.5 points.
 
The meet, which began on Thursday and welcomed roughly 1,100 athletes, wrapped up on Saturday with the W&M relay teams highlighting the afternoon for the Tribe.
 
The Green and Gold picked up an event win behind the relay efforts of Molly Weithman, Kelly Ann Sutterfield, Arianna DeBoer and Catherine Garrison in the 4x1600m. Their time of 18:40.97 allowed them to coast to a victory by almost 13 seconds.
 
W&M would add another relay win later in the day in the women's 4x400m. The squad of Kianne Benjamin, Avery Glidden, Leah Gould and Emily Ervin posted a time 3:45.77 to top Bucknell by nearly 3.5 seconds.
 
Earlier action on the track saw the women's 4x200m relay team of Jamison Gilmore, Aurora Schwaner, Jaqueline Jones and Summer Mellow have success. The quartet crossed the line with a time of 1:43.88 to earn runner-up honors in the event.
 
W&M's women's distance medley relay team followed suit with a second-place finish of their own. The Tribe's team of Chloe Miller, Caroline Jones, Emily Sell and Anne McSweeney posted a time of 12:17.73 to edge out Suffolk's team for the runner-up spot.
 
Action in the field events on Saturday was highlighted by Armon Wright in the triple jump. The Tribe freshman earned the event win with an effort 15.23m on his second attempt. Wright's mark left him less than three inches shy of the W&M freshman record.
 
Katriel Amoyaw posted a podium finish for the Tribe on the women's side of the high jump. The sophomore was able to clear 1.61m and earned a third-place finish in the process.
 
The Tribe is back in action next week at the Duke Invitational beginning on Thursday.
