Swimming Picks up Pair of Wins at Georgetown

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The William & Mary swimming teams won 20 of 28 events en route to a sweep of Georgetown on Saturday afternoon at the Yates Field House in Washington, D.C. The Tribe women's team outscored the Hoyas 178-84 while the men edged out a 133-129 victory.

Freshman standout Tess Lankford stood out in the women's 200 freestyle, posting a winning time of 1:50.16. That marked a new personal best and remains the 13th-fastest time in school history. In the men's 200 free, David Yune won with a time of 1:40.31.

The relay team of Sarah Dunham, Ellie Scherer, Lindsay Juhlin, and Caroline Burgeson took gold in the 200 medley relay, finishing in 1:41.70. In the 1000 freestyle, Lauren Tucker finished in 10:12.28 for first place.

W&M also notched victories in both sections of the 100 backstroke. Scherer had the winning time on the women's side (1:02.72) while Brock Rempe led the way for the men (55.01). Scherer also placed first in the 200 breaststroke at 2:18.06, followed by teammates Tess Lankford (2:18.74) and Kaitlyn Conover-Emmert (2:18.99).

In the women's 100 freestyle, Flynn Truskett was able to improve upon her previous PR with a time of 50.46. That stands as ninth-best in program history.

The Tribe also dominated the 100 backstroke, as Julie Addison had the fastest time for the women (55.45) and Bryce Rouzie won the men's field (50.53).

Claire Neilly was victorious in the 400 IM. Her time of 4:20.61 ranks as the seventh-fastest individual performance all-time.

In the final race of the meet, William & Mary took home the women's 200 freestyle relay. It was Juhlin, Burgeson, Dunham, and Truskett that led the way with a time of 1:32.99.

With the two wins, the Tribe has now won 11 of their last 12 dual meet competitions dating back to Oct. 12.
