LEXINGTON, Ky.—Chris Arias and
Raiden Lafortune represented William & Mary track and field on the opening day of the NCAA East Regional Prelims in Lexington, Ky.
The duo both competed in the javelin to round out their season, with Arias finishing in 18
th and Lafortune 24
th.
Both Tribe athletes finished in the top half of competitors, with 48 athletes in total making up the prelim field.
Arias, a senior who won his second CAA title in the javelin this season, posted 65.18m on his third and final toss on Wednesday for the 18
th place finish. The trip to Lexington was his fourth NCAA postseason appearance.
Lafortune, who is just a freshman, posted his best mark on his opening toss, coming in at 63.19m. He earned the bronze medal over a week ago during his CAA Championships debut and earned a podium finish in all of his regular season meets in the javelin.
The Tribe will have three more athletes compete at the NCAA East Region Prelims, all coming on the women's side.
Keeley Suzenski and
Liv Cantby will compete in the hammer throw and javelin respectively on Thursday, while
Megan Heidebrecht will round out the event Saturday evening for W&M in the triple jump.
The top-12 in each event will earn a trip to nationals in Eugene, Ore.
