Cunningham's Program Record Highlights Track & Field's Performance at Wake Forest

WINSTON SALEM, N.C.—Melissa Cunningham's school record in the women's 100m highlighted the day for William & Mary track and field at the Wake Forest Invitational on Friday.

Cunningham clocked in at 11.87 seconds to claim the program's fastest time ever and finish in fourth for the event. She broke the previous record of 11.96 set by Amaya Johnson just last year.

Teammate Jacqueline Jones was right on the tail of Cunningham and now own's the second fastest time in program history thanks to a performance of 11.95 seconds. Jones surpassed her old personal best of 12.18 that she had set just a week ago at the Virginia Grand Prix.

Cunningham's solid performance didn't just end after setting the school record in the 100m, she tied her career best of 24.63 in the 200m later in the day.

Megan Heidebrecht, no stranger to the W&M record books herself, posted another top performance in the long jump. The senior leaped 5.85m on her third attempt, good for the third best Tribe performance all-time. Heidebrecht now owns four of the top five performances in the event in W&M history.

Action in the other field events saw J.P. Mintz post a mark of 4.67m in the pole vault. He now sits as the 14th best performer all-time in the event for the Green & Gold.

Keeley Suzenski's first toss in the shot put wound up 12.68m, which ended up good for 13th best performance in Tribe history for the event. Suzenski is the program record holder at 15.02m.

Fiona Basewitz took third place in the pole vault for W&M on Friday clearing 3.31m on her second attempt.

On the track Jackson Cooley put up a solid time of 10.77 seconds in the men's 100m, tied for the 20th best performance all-time at W&M. Cooley, a senior, now owns 10 of the best 20 times in the event for the Tribe.

Clare Howard narrowly set a new personal best in Green & Gold on Friday in the 400m hurdles. Howard, now the seventh best performer all-time for the Tribe in the event, crossed the line in 1:03.15, beating her old career mark by 0.05 seconds.

The Tribe returns to action next Sunday at the Virginia High Performance in Charlottesville.
