CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Opening the Cavalier Invite, the William & Mary men's and women's swim teams made a statement as five swimmers set personal record times and sophomore
Rhett Cosgrove's 50 Free best time ranks him in the program's all-time leaderboard in the event.
Day one of the three-day invitational featured Tribe participation in the 500 Free, 200 IM and 50 Free.
500 Free
Meghan Benda shaved over three seconds off of her prelim mark for a personal-best 5:03.62 finish in the women's 500 Free.
Chloe Swatts touched the wall in 5:08.07, cutting her prelim time by nearly seven seconds and beating her season-best mark by over eight-and-a-half seconds. Rounding out the Tribe performances,
Emmerson Dingwerth swam a 5:08.25 and
Julie Anderson posted a personal-best 5:04.41 in prelims.
On the men's side,
Will Juricak posted a pair of season best times in the 500 Free, erasing over a second off of his prelim mark for a 4:34.60 finish.
200 IM
In the women's 200 IM,
Alexis Bonfield and
Julia Gehrig each posted season best times to improve on their prelim marks as Bonfield swam a 2:09.01 and Gehrig finished in 2:11.17.
Senior
Mills Harris represented the Tribe in the men's 200 IM, swimming a season-best 1:53.03.
50 Free
Sydney Querner placed in the top eight in the women's 50 Free finals, swimming a 23.64 time marking a season best and the second-fastest time of her career. Fellow senior Corrinne Davenport set a personal best swim with a 23.84 time, cutting her prelim time by over two tenths of a second for the fastest mark of her career.
Faith Perry rounded out the Tribe in the 50 Free, clocking in at 24.46 in prelims.
Cosgrove took nearly a second off his previous personal record time in the 50 Free to break into the program all-time leaderboard with his finals time of 20.60, placing third overall in the event. The sophomore now ranks 15
th in program history in the men's 50 Free.
Ashton Temme posted also posted a personal best time in the 50 Free, finishing with a 21.41 mark.
Up Next
The Tribe continue competition in Charlottesville through Sunday, Feb. 11. On Saturday, events will resume in prelims at 11 a.m. and finals are scheduled for 6 p.m. before the meet wraps up with 10 a.m. prelims and 4 p.m. finals on Sunday.

After wrapping up their regular season competition, the Tribe will head to the CAA Championship in Hampton, Va., on Feb. 28-March 2.
