HAMPTON, Va. – William & Mary swimming opened competition in the 2024 CAA Championships with some noise, as the 200 Medley Relay team places second in the first swimming event of the week. All four relay teams posted top-16 times in program history, including a pair of top-two times from each of the 200 Medley teams.
200 Medley Relay
Earning the first medal of the week for the Tribe, the relay team of
Kat Vanbourgondien,
Ellie Scherer,
Sophia Heilen and
Caroline Burgeson posted a blazing 1:39.32 finish with the second best 200 Medley Relay swim in program history. They finished less than half of a second behind the champion UNCW relay team.
Also posting a second-best time in the event, but on the men's side, the relay team of
Conor Sokolowsky,
Brock Rempe,
Kent Codding,
Aiden Bond finished their 200 Medley Relay in 1:26.51, posting the best time W&M has seen since the CAA Championships in 2020.
800 Free Relay
In the second event of the night,
Sarah Dunham,
Flynn Truskett,
Devin Genderson, and
Lauren Tucker combined for a 7:23.81 800 Free Relay finish, with the 16
th-best time in W&M history. Genderson, a junior, and the freshman trio etch their names into the program leaderboard.
Closing out the second session of the Championships, the men's relay team of
David Yune,
Colin Mamaril,
Will Glass and
Conor Sokolowsky posted a 6:36.91 time for the 10
th-best 800 Free Relay swim in Tribe history. Like the 200 Medley, the men's 800 Free team made the best time in the event since a program record was set in the 2020 CAA Championships.
With his 1:38.25 split, Yune set a freshman record in the 200 Free as the leadoff swimmer, replacing John O'Hara's 1:38.80 finish from the 2020 CAA Championships.

Competition resumes at 10 a.m. on Thursday morning with session three of the CAA Championships. The teams will compete in the 500 Free, 200 IM, 50 Free, 400 Medley Relay. Finals are slated for 6 p.m. on Thursday, following the prelims.
