Track & Field Shows Out in Patriot Games, Strobach Breaks Freshman Record

FAIRFIELD, Va. – In another strong outing, the William & Mary track & field teams combined for seven event wins at the Patriot Games on Saturday. Competing at the George Mason Fieldhouse, the Tribe posted some historically dominant times, landing on the all-time program leaderboards in multiple events.

The women's team showed out in the field events, securing a trio of wins, including Elizabeth Strobach's freshman-record-breaking pole vault.

Strobach overtook a 12-year-standing freshman record in the pole vault with her 3.83m mark to earn the event win. Megan Heidebrecht won the women's long jump with her 5.74m mark, the 6th-highest achieved in W&M history. Keeley Suzenski recorded a 14.68m mark in the shot put, also making a leaderboard performance with the 12th-best mark in program history.

Annika Griggs won the 3000M for the Tribe women, clocking in at 10:34.49 to top the podium. Tessa Dobrinski made a third-place finish in the event as she followed with a 10:45.91 time.

Jacqueline Jones and Melissa Cunningham each advanced to the women's 60M final, placing fourth and fifth overall. Jones improved her time in each race, recording a 7.89 in the finals. Cunningham recorded a season-best 7.82 time in the semifinal and finished just behind Jones with a 7.90 time in the final.

On the men's side, Jackson Cooley secured the 60M victory with his personal-best 6.85 time. The mark is tied for the sixth-fastest in program history and Cooley joins Davion Hutt (2014-17) as the only other name in the top-16 leaderboard.

Cunningham posted a top-three finish in the 200M with a time of 26.13 and was joined by senior Lizzy Gregory's fifth-place race with a time of 26.67. Gregory also made a top-four finish in the 400M, posting a season-best time of 1:00.57.

In the men's 500M, freshman Jacob Robinson made an impressive event debut, recording a 1:05.35 time to rank 13th all-time in W&M history. On the women's side, Makenzie Joiner finished second in the 500M with her 1:17.03 time.

Sophomore Lydia Wallis placed second in the women's 800M as she recorded a 2:18.37 time.

The men's Distance Medley Relay shone, as the team of Lucas Thompson, Matthias Oettl, Amberson Bauer and Henry Anderson posted a 10:35.96 finish for the win.
