TRIBE NOTES
Last Time Out:
Nora Green-Orset provided the only goal of the match in the 8
th minute as the Tribe boosted their record to 5-0-3 with a 1-0 win at Delaware. The goal was created off a W&M corner before Green-Orset blocked a Delaware clearance attempt into the net.
Zoe Doughty made three stops on the afternoon as the Tribe collected their fifth shutout.
Writing History:
The Tribe completed their regular season non-conference schedule unbeaten for the first time in program history. The Green and Gold are also riding an eight-game unbeaten streak. That matches the Tribe's longest regular season unbeaten streak since 2015 when they finished the regular season with a streak of eight as well. That 2015 squad finished 14-5-3 and lost in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Nothing Feels Better Then Clean Sheets:
W&M's five clean sheets places them 35
th in the nation and first in the CAA in shutout percentage. The Tribe is also atop the conference in goals against average, save percentage and win percentage.
Zoe Doughty individually leads the CAA in both goals against average and save percentage, being aided by a backline that has yet to allow multiple goals in a game.
Getting Her Money's Worth:
Ivey Crain wasn't shy in getting off shots at Drexel in the conference opener. The reigning CAA Rookie of the Year fired off a career-high dozen shots against the Dragons, scoring the game winning goal in the second half. She placed six of her shots on-frame, also a career high. Crain currently sits first in the CAA in shots on goal per game, while ranking second in total goals (4) and shots per game.
Nothin' Like Home Cookin':
Thursday's match against Monmouth starts a three game homestand for the Tribe. They will host Campbell next Thursday and Elon on Sept. 24. The stretch is only the second time in the last seven years the Green and Gold have had three consecutive CAA home matches, with the other instance being last year for a four game homestand. The Tribe is 4-5-1 in their last 10 CAA home openers.
On Top Early:
Through two CAA matches William & Mary sits alone atop the CAA standings at 2-0-0 and six points. The Tribe are the only team to have won their opening two conference matches. Elon and Monmouth have yet to play conference matches, while Hofstra and UNCW have only played one. Towson, Stony Brook and Northeastern are the Tribe's closest early pursuers at 1-0-1 and four points.
Series History:
Monmouth is in their second year in the CAA, and tied the Tribe, 2-2, last year in the series' maiden conference matchup. The Tribe are unbeaten all-time against the Hawks, 5-0-1, in the series that dates to 1989. The two sides hadn't played since 2009 prior to last year's CAA contest.
Scouting the Hawks:
Monmouth's CAA opener against Elon was postponed on Sunday, making their matchup in Williamsburg their first conference action of the year. They enter with a 1-3-0 record and have not played since Sept. 3 due to the postponement. That last game was a 4-1 loss at No. 6 Penn State. The Hawks lone win of the year was a 4-0 decision against Fairleigh Dickinson. Liza Suydam leads Monmouth with two goals this season.
