WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Unbeaten in its first two matches of the season, William & Mary women's soccer returns to action with a pair of contests against Commonwealth foes this week. The Tribe heads to Richmond on Thursday afternoon to wrap up a three-match, season-opening road swing. W&M kicks off the home slate on Sunday against VCU.
The Tribe-Spiders match is scheduled for a 5 p.m. start and will be broadcast on ESPN+. W&M and VCU square off at 1 p.m. at Martin Family Stadium at Albert Daly Field. The contest will be broadcast on FloFC.
Tribe News and Notes
- W&M went 1-0-1 during the opening weekend in Philadelphia. Following a 4-0 win over Temple in the first match of the season, the Tribe played to a scoreless draw at Saint Joseph's. It marked the first time W&M opened the season unbeaten in its first two matches since 2017.
- The Tribe defense generated back-to-back shutouts during the opening weekend of the season. It marked the first time that W&M posted consecutive clean sheets to open a season since 2011.
- Sophomore center back
Nora Green-Orset was named the CAA Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. Green-Orset played 186 of 190 minutes at the center back spot in helping the Tribe to shutouts. She also scored her first collegiate goal, heading home a corner kick in the second half at Temple. She was also named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week.
- Sophomore
Ivey Crain picked up where she left off during her rookie season in the opener at Temple. The forward scored twice in 20 seconds to register her third career brace. Last season, Crain led the Tribe and ranked among the CAA leaders with 24 points on nine points and six assists.
- W&M and Richmond renew their rivalry, meeting for the first time since 2014 during the regular season. The Tribe downed the Spiders, 2-1, in Williamsburg during the exhibition slate last season. The Green and Gold is 13-1-1 all-time against Richmond, including a 4-1 mark on the road. W&M won, 4-1, in the last regular season meeting in Williamsburg in 2014.
- The Tribe is 20-7-3 all-time vs. VCU, including an 8-3 mark in Williamsburg. The Green and Gold is averaging over two goals per game in the 30 all-time meetings (2.07). VCU won last season, 1-0, in Richmond. VCU head coach Lindsey Vanderspiegel Martin '04 is a W&M alum and was inducted in the Tribe Athletics Hall of Fame in 2016 after a standout career with the Green and Gold.
