FAIRFAX, Va. —
Liv Cantby? More like Liv absolutely
can. Break the oldest William & Mary women's outdoor track & field record, that is.
And capture ECAC gold, for good measure.
Competing at the second day of the ECAC Championship at George Mason University on Saturday, Cantby took down the Tribe javelin record, which was set in 1988, with a throw of 46.80m (153-06). The Denmark native's record-breaking throw came in the sixth round as she finished first. It's the best performance by a W&M athlete in the event since Wendy Warren took fourth overall at the 1986 ECAC Championship.
Cantby wasn't the only one performing well on the day, either.
Fresh off her podium appearance at last weekend's CAA Championship,
Olesya Sitkowski followed up in fantastic fashion. The junior took second in the pole vault at 3.98m (13-00.75), the sixth-best performance in William & Mary history.
Sophie Fernandez notched her own impressive performance, as well, taking fourth at 3.78m (12-04.75). And, for the second straight year,
Keeley Suzenski captured All-East honors in the hammer throw, placing fifth at 56.28m (184-07).
Meanwhile, on the track, freshman
Catherine Garrison added another strong performance to her already impressive steeplechase showing this season. Running a 10:46.59, she took third place and All-East honors.
Arianna DeBoer also continued her dominance in distance events, finishing fifth in the 5,000m with a time of 16:57.52.
As a team, with 12 of 22 events scored, William & Mary sits tied with Hampton in 1
st with 39 points. Navy is in third with 35.5.
Javelin
Zoe Metzger took seventh at 39.72m (130-03).
Long Jump
Megan Heidebrecht captured 14
th place at 5.48m (17-11.75
).
800m
Makenzie Joiner crossed the finish line in 2:15.90.
1500m
Kelly Ann Sutterfield ran a strong race, finishing in 4:42.81.
100m Prelims
Melissa Cunningham ran a 12.05, while
Anna Kessler crossed the finish line in 12.24. Cunningham's time is the ninth fastest by a W&M sprinter and marks her third appearance in the top-10 all-time this season.
