Tribe Women's Tennis Adds Yu Chen for 2023-24

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary head women's tennis coach Jessica Giuggioli announced the addition of graduate transfer Yu Chen to the Tribe program for the 2023-24 season. Chen, who graduated from Auburn in August, will enroll in the MS of Business Analytics program in W&M's prestigious Raymond A. Mason School of Business.

"We are thrilled to be adding Yu Chen to our program," Giuggioli said. "Yu has proven herself as a student-athlete at Auburn University and has continued to have strong tennis results. Yu has ambitious goals for her future; we look forward to working with her and welcoming her to the Tribe."

Chen previously played four years at Auburn University. She closed out her career with the Tigers ranked 12th on the program's all-time wins list with 73 singles victories. Chen was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team and recognized as an ITA Scholar-Athlete in 2022. She is a three-time SEC Academic Honor Roll selection.

Over her final two seasons with the Tigers, Chen helped the program to back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Tournament, including a spot in the Super Regional in 2022. She clinched Auburn's spot in the Super Regional with a three-set win in a 4-3 second-round victory over No. 33 Georgia Tech. In 2022, the Tigers finished the year at 22-6 overall, including an 11-2 SEC record, and were ranked No. 14 in the final ITA poll. Auburn equaled its deepest run in the NCAA Tournament and earned the program's highest SEC finish, coming in second in the final standings.

Individually, Chen shared team-best honors with a 29-11 singles record in 2021-22, including an impressive 21-5 mark in dual-match action. She was 11-2 in SEC play. During both her sophomore (2020) and junior (2021) seasons, Chen was ranked in the ITA national singles rankings, coming in as high as No. 94 during the spring of 2021.

Chen possesses a 10.15 UTR. She has played in both ITF and WTA events, earning high singles rankings of No. 202 in the ITF and No. 1316 in the WTA.
