Donovan, Sokolowsky Honored as Phi Beta Kappa Initiates

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – A pair of William & Mary student-athletes – Caroline Donovan (lacrosse) and Conor Sokolowsky (swimming) – were recently selected as initiates to the prestigious Phi Beta Kappa Society.

With their selections, a total of 196 W&M student-athletes have been elected to Phi Beta Kapa.

A three-year starter and two-time team captain on the lacrosse team, Donovan has been one of the Tribe's top players throughout her career and is closing in on the program's all-time top-10 list for caused turnovers. She currently ranks second on the team in caused turnover this season (13).

As a junior last spring, she led the team in caused turnovers (19) and was tied for third in ground balls (27). Additionally, she ranked sixth in the Colonial Athletic Association in caused turnovers per game (1.19). The prior season, she ranked tied for eighth in the CAA in caused turnovers per game (1.0).

An anthropology major, Donovan has earned CAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll distinction multiple times. She has also garnered W&M's Provost Award on multiple occasions and was selected to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaching Association (IWLCA) Academic Honor Roll.

Sokolowsky has been one of Tribe Men's Swimming's most productive performers during the past four seasons. The senior has 13 career finishes on the podium, including a first-place C finish in the 100 back on Senior Day this season. Sokolowsky was an A finalist in three events at the CAA Championships this February, finishing fourth in the 200 IM and 200 back, and seventh in the 400 IM. Overall, Sokolowsky has appeared in the CAA finals in 10 events during his career.

A model student-athlete, Sokolowsky has been featured as a member of the CAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll and is a W&MProvost Award winner. The swimmer was also named President of the freshman class in 2019.

Phi Beta Kappa was founded Dec. 5, 1776 at W&M as the first Greek-letter fraternity and is now the nation's oldest and most prestigious collegiate honor society with chapters at more than 280 colleges and universities.  According to the organization's website, "Phi Beta Kappa celebrates and advocates excellence in the liberal arts and sciences. Its campus chapters invite for induction the most outstanding arts and sciences students at America's leading colleges and universities. The Society sponsors activities to advance these studies — the humanities, the social sciences, and the natural sciences — in higher education and in society at large."
