VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – No two ways about it, the Tribe had an excellent day on Thursday.
Competing in Day 2 of the Colonial Athletic Association indoor track & field championship at the Virginia Beach Sports Center, William & Mary saw two student-athletes capture gold in their respective events—
Keeley Suzenski in the shot put and
Arianna DeBoer in the 3,000m.
Suzenski had her strongest showing of an incredible season in the championship, taking gold at 15.39m (50-6.00). The performance was the second-best in William & Mary history. Of course, that's become a familiar string of words for the standout senior who now owns the top 12 performances by a Tribe athlete in the event. Meanwhile on the track, DeBoer crossed the finish line in 9:35.52. The time moves her into No. 14 on the W&M all-time performers list.
Joining the Green and Gold duo on the podium was the Tribe's 4x400 relay team. The quartet of
Amaya Johnson,
Lizzy Gregory,
Carly Swierbut, and
Emily Ervin captured bronze with a time of 3:43.47. It was the second-fastest time in William & Mary history and the second time this season the group has set that mark. They previously ran a 3:44.80 at the Doc Hale VT Meet earlier this month.
As a team, the Green and Gold placed fifth with 58 points. Elon was first with 129.83 points, Hampton was second (121.33), and Northeatern (93) was third.
200m
Emily Ervin ran a 24.92, the 12th-fastest time in William & Mary's record books.
400m
Fresh off running the second-fastest time in Tribe history on Wednesday,
Emily Ervin followed up with a sixth-place finish in the final, crossing the finish line in 56.35.
