WILLIAMSBURG, VA.- The William & Mary men came up just short in a 148-113 loss to Davidson Saturday afternoon in the Bee McLeod Rec Center. Davidson's Dylan Felt set a new pool record with a 4:31.58 time in the 500 free to break a mark over 20 years old.
RESULTS
In the opening relay,
Conor Sokolowsky,
Kyle Demers,
Gavin Lamoureux, and Eugino Massari came in second with a 1:32.50 less than a half second off the first place time.
Will Glass's time of 9:52.81 was good for third in the men's 1,000 distance free.
Rhett Cosgrove and Massari finished second and third to give the Tribe two on the podium in the 200 free before Sokolowsky blazed past the competition with a 50.83 time to earn the win in the 100 back putting his stamp on Senior Day.
In the 100 breast, the Tribe men recorded top-two finishes as Broke Rempe and
Kyle Demers touched first with times of 56.96 and 57.30 in the event, and
Noah Fields was just off the first place time in the 200 fly to finish second with a 1:51.64, while
Gavin Lamoureux took third, and
Ashton Temme finished fourth in the men's event.
Freshman
Alex Valliere took second with a 21.47 time in the men's 50 free and Massari recorded his second runner-up of the afternoon with a 47.24 in the 100 free. Another Tribe freshman,
Bryce Rouzie produced a second-place finish in the 200 back with a time of 1:52.23.
The highlight of the meet was the 200 breaststroke event as William & Mary swept the top three spots. Demers earned the victory with a 2:07.89 time and was followed by
Cole Younger and
Noah Spain to claim all three podium times. Cosgrove was once again a runner-up, this time in the 500 free before
Gavin Lamoureux took second in the 100 fly.
Noah Fields put a stamp on Senior Day finishing first in the 400 IM with a 4:06.93 time to edge out teammate and runner up Sokolowsky. The relay team of
Alex Valliere,
Logan McDonald, Massari, and Lamoureux finished second to round out the afternoon.
William & Mary will have a week away from competition before heading to the UVA Invitational in the first week of February. The meet will serve as the team's final tune-up before the CAA Championships.
