W&M Women's Track & Field Breaks School Records, to Secure Second Place Finish at Colonial Relays

WILLIAMSBURG Va., -The William & Mary women's track & field team closed out the Colonial Relays strong on Saturday. After breaking two school records and securing five top-three finishes, the Tribe placed second overall with a total of 74.50 points.  Virginia won the team title with 80 points and Bucknell settled in third with 73.50 points.

For the second year in a row, the Green & Gold won the 4x400 relay.  Team of sophomores Carly Swierbut, Mary Gregory, Grace Bir, and freshmen Emily Ervin recorded a combined time of 3:42.57, shaving two and a half seconds off the school record. It was the fastest time to win the colonial relays by any school since 2010.


How It Happened:
  • In the shot-put sophomore, Keeley Suzenski broke the school record with a mark of 14.93m,  placing second overall and collecting eight points for the Green & Gold.
  • Over in the triple jump sophomore, Chelsea Mitchell leaped into second at a mark of 11.61m, while rookie Dana Abraham finished third at 11.51m, to complete her first Colonial Relays.
  • Sophomore Chelsea Wallace placed eighth in the discus with a mark of 45.69m and contributed a point to the Tribe's overall score.
  • Rounding it out for the Tribe in the 4x1500 meter relay, sophomores Molly Coyle, Emily Sell, Annie Wicker, Kyra Holland, and freshman Lucy Young finished third at 19:19.30, adding six points to the Green & Gold's overall tally.
NEXT UP:  The Tribe will compete at the Mason Spring Invitational in Fairfax, Va. April 9.
