RICHMOND, Va. – William & Mary men's golf graduate student
Ethan Mangum and women's swimming senior
Missy Cundiff were honored by the Colonial Athletic Association on Wednesday as Scholar-Athlete of the Year finalists.
The CAA Scholar-Athlete of the Year program recognizes one male and one female honoree from each of the 10 league institutions, and from those institutional Scholar-Athletes of the Year, selects one Male and one Female CAA Scholar-Athlete of the Year. For the 2021-22 academic year, the winners are Hofstra soccer players Hendrik Hebbeker and Lucy Porter.
Mangum, who transferred to W&M after leading Florida A&M to a MEAC Championship, leads the Tribe with a 74.06 scoring average in 2021-22. He posted a pair of top-10 efforts during the fall, including placing second at the Howard Bison Invitational.
In January, Mangum was named the inaugural Pathway Player and earned a spot in The Genesis Invitational's Collegiate Showcase. He was ranked No. 1 in the latest APGA Collegiate Ranking, which recognizes the top Black golfers from NCAA Division I, II or III programs and is based on players' Golfstat adjusted scoring average.
Cundiff became the first Tribe swimmer to be selected to the NCAA Division I Swimming Championships since 2010. She just missed All-American honors by .06 seconds and finished 18th in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 22.05.
At the CAA Championships, Cundiff won three titles, including setting the league record in the 50 free. During the summer, she won the 50-meter free in the Wave I of Olympic Trials along with capturing a state title in the event.
