PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The William & Mary women's gymnastics team posted its best score of the season but placed seventh at the inaugural Gymnastics East Conference Championship hosted by Brown University on Saturday.
Penn claimed the team title with a 196.950 and was followed by Brown (195.975), West Chester (195.250), Yale (194.825), Southern Connecticut (194.200), Cornell (194.175), W&M (192.675) and Bridgeport (183.925).
In addition to posting its best overall score of the season, W&M also tallied season highs on bars (48.425) and floor (48.875).
Junior
Keaghan Schafer highlighted the Tribe's individual performances and garnered second-team all-conference honors in all-around with a sixth-place finish (38.325, career high).
Event Highlights
Vault, 47.600 – Junior
Emma Wiley led W&M on vault with a 9.600, while freshman
Sarah Kuper also contributed to the team total with a 9.550.
Bars, 48.425 – A pair of freshmen highlighted the Tribe's bars routines, as
Sarah Wozniak (9.850) and Kuper (9.800) both earned career highs in the event.
Beam, 47.775 – Senior
Chloe Campbell and Wiley recorded W&M's top scores on beam and both registered career highs with a 9.725.
Floor, 48.875 – Campbell's career-best 9.850 led the way on floor, while junior
Abby Carpenter also posted a career high (9.825) and Schafer matched her career best (9.775).
All-Around – In addition to Schafer's sixth-place finish in all-around, Kuper also competed in all four events and just missed out on earning all-league distinction by placing seventh (38.200).
