CHRISTIANSBURG, VA. - After years of knocking on the door, the William & Mary women's swim team captured the CAA title Saturday night in Christiansburg.
Annie Tuttle's gold in the 200 breast and
Katie Stevenson's first place in the 100 free gave the Tribe all the separation they would need to win the meet despite not participating in the diving portion. Head coach
Nate Kellogg was named the CAA Coach of the Year following the victory.
From Coach Kellogg- I'm so proud of the way our women handled themselves throughout the entire season. They established their identity as touch, fearless, relentless, and resilient. This group displayed this throughout the meet. We also owe a ton of gratitude to our alumni, who paved the way for this group."
The Tribe entered the final day of competition with a slim lead over second place UNCW, but a pair of wins combined with a podium finish from
Anna Kenna in the 200 back and a second place time in the 400 free relay clinched the team's first CAA Championship since 2017.
1,650 Free- In the 1,650 finals,
Elizabeth Intihar finished with a time of 16:53.21 to clinch a fourth place finish.
Devin Genderson brought home seventh place to bring home 12 points with a time of 17:15.51.
200 Back-
Anna Kenna's 1:59.26 time was good for third in the prelims and
Ellie Henry finished sixth for the A final.
Kat Vanbourgondien finished 11th overall while
Kim Jogis and
Alexis Bonfield were 12th and 13th respectively.
Final-
Anna Kenna reached the podium once again finishing third with a time of 1::58.67 while
Ellie Henry earned 13 points with a sixth-place finish. Vanbourgondien won the B final and finished ninth, while Bonfield and Jogis finished 14th and 15th respectively.
100 Free-
Katie Stevenson had a third place finish in prelims while
Missy Cundiff came in seventh in the morning heat.
Final- Stevenson turned on the jets to beat all opposition with a time of 49.89 gold medal-winning time. Cundiff picked up 11 points with an eighth place finish.
200 Breast-
Annie Tuttle bested all comers with a 2:16.74 time in prelims and
Brooke Lamoureux finished seventh.
Ellie Scherer finished just outside the top eight at ninth and Peyton Proffit came in 13th.
Final- Tuttle took the Tribe's second consecutive gold medal with a time of 2:14.44 time, nearly two full seconds better than her prelim mark. Lamoureux brought in a fifth place finish, while Scherer won the B final and Proffitt finished in 13th.
200 Fly-
Maura Graff and
Grace Tramack finished fifth and sixth respectively in the prelims while
Rebecca Rogers came in ninth.
Sarah Rice finished 14th while
Devin Genderson was just outside the top-16 at 17th.
Final- Graff took home fourth place, besting her seeded position by one with a time of 2:03.45 and teammate earned important points with a seventh place finish in the A final. In the B race, Rodgers took ninth swimming nearly a full second faster than her prelim time and Rice claimed 11th.
400 Free- In the meet's final race the Tribe got exactly what was needed as junior
Katie Stevenson, gave way to
Missy Cundiff, followed by Intihar, and
Anna Kenna for a second-place time of 3:21.89 to earn 34 points and ensure victory over UNCW.
