Kenna Claims First Place As Tribe Holds On to Lead at CAA Championships

CHRISTIANSBURG, VA.- Three more individual podiums on the women's side highlighted the third day of CAA Championships. Anna Kenna brought home gold in the 100 back, while Annie Tuttle took silver in the 100 breast, and Elizabeth Intihar finished with the bronze in the 200 free. Going into the final day the Tribe women hold a 19.5 point lead over UNCW for first place while the men will enter Saturday in fifth. 
 
The four-day meet will conclude tomorrow with the 1,650 Free, 200 Back, 100 Free, 200 Breast, 200 Fly, and 400 Free Relay.
 
100 Fly
In the prelims, Maura Graff placed eighth with a time of 56.09, while Missy Cundiff just missed the A final with a 56.15 mark. Corinne Davenport was 11th with a 56.21 swim. Graham Hertweck continued his terrific meet with a 48.63 time tying him for sixth place, while teammate Gavin Lamoureux made the B final with a 49.52 mark. 
 
Final- Graff's 55.94 time was good for seventh place overall, and Missy Cundiff placed 16th. Hertweck tied for fifth overall with a 48.42 time and Lamoureux brought home a 13th-place finish for the Green and Gold. 
 
400 IM
Grace Tramack and Kim Jogis both turned in A final performances finishing fourth and seventh respectively while Natlia Rongione added a 12th place finish to qualify for the B cut finals. On the men's side it was Conor Sokolowsky with a sixth place finish with a time of 4:01.02 and Colby Mills securing a spot in the B final. 
 
Final- Tramack and Jogis picked up crucial points for the Tribe finishing fifth and sixth respectively, while Rebecca Rogers and Rangione took 14th and 15th for the women. Sokolowsky had a strong showing shaving a second off his prelim time for a sixth place finish, while Mills took six seconds off his opening time to finish 12th. 
 
200 Free
Katie Stevenson was a second faster than her seed time to capture third place in the prelims while teammate Elizabeth Intihar finished fifth in the women's 200 free. John O'Hara cut nearly four seconds off his seeded time to rank third among all men in the 200 free, while Owen Miller qualified for the B final. 
 
Intihar picked up another medal and 16 points for the Tribe with a third-place finish in the 200 while Stevenson finished just one spot behind in fourth. O'Hara just missed a podium finish taking fourth while Miller had the 13th best time in the men's race. 
 
100 Breast
Annie Tuttle's 1:02.37 time in was just a half second off NCAA B qualifying and was good for second among all swimmers while Ellie Scherer placed ninth to qualify for the B group finals. Kyle Demers swam a 54.92, his best time of the year for sixth place, while Harris Mills came in 14th. 
 
Final- Tuttle was faster than her prelim time, but just a few tenths of a second behind Delaware's Mania Tsakou, finishing in second place, while Lamoureux had a solid showing in eighth. Scherer won nine important points for the Tribe with a first place finish in the B final. Demers earned 13 points for the Tribe coming in sixth on the men's side while Harris placed 14th overall. 
 
100 Back
Anna Kenna's time of 54.96 was the fastest in the morning session by nearly half a second and Kat Vanbourgondien, Ellie Henry, and Alexis Bonfield finished ninth, tenth, and eleventh with Sarah Rice claiming 16th. In the final heats of the morning, Micah Lowe and Aaron Tingley finished ninth and tenth respectively, while Jack Galbraith and Anderson Broughton placed 15th and 16th. 
 
Final- Kenna shaved nearly half a second off her qualifying time to take the gold medal in the 100 back with a wire to wire win. Teammates Vanbourgondien and Henry finished ninth and 10th while Rice came in 14th and Bonfield 16th. For the men, Lowe won the B final with a time of 49.33 and Tingley, Broughton, and Galbraith finished 13th, 14th, and 16th respectively. 
 
200 Free Relay
In the day's final event the Tribe finished just three tenths of a second behind Drexel in the women's 200 free relay to take second place. Cundiff swam a 22.56 followed by Stevenson and Lamoureux, and anchor Kenna swam a 22.49 in the second place effort. The Tribe's men finished fourth as Hertweck, O'Hara, Kent Codding, and Lamoureux swam a 1:21.77 time.
