LYNCHBURG, Va. – For the second time this season, sophomore
Chelsea Mitchell topped the William & Mary school record in the 60-meter dash to lead the way for the Tribe at the eighth annual Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational.
Along with Mitchell's performance, the Tribe athletes produced a number of top performances in program history, including rookie
Emily Ervin besting her own freshman record in the 200-meter dash.
Running Events
60m Dash
Mitchell topped her own school record for the second-straight meeting, running a time of 7.72 in the semifinals of the 60-meter dash. Her time was an ECAC qualifying mark.
200m Dash
Freshman
Emily Ervin ran the seventh-fastest time in W&M history and bettered her own W&M freshman record in the 200-meter dash. Her time of 24.96 to placed 11th in the 53-competitor field and met the ECAC qualifying standard. Overall, Ervin is the third-fastest woman in Tribe lore.
400m Dash
The Tribe placed two among the top 15 in the 400-meter dash. Sophomore Mary Gregory ran the 15th-fastest time in school history of 56.62 to finish sixth. She, who now stands as the sixth-fastest individual in the event in program history, reached the ECAC qualifying standard. Sophomore
Grace Bir placed 14th in the 59-runner field with a time of 58.13.
500m Dash
Sophomore
Makenzie Joiner claimed fourth in the event thanks to a time of 1:18.19.
3000m Run
Freshman
Arianna DeBoer ran a 9:55.62 to finish 19th out of 61 runners in the 3000-meter run. Her time was the best for the Tribe in 2022 and fell just 62 hundredths of a second shy of the ECAC qualifying standard.
4x400m Relay
The Tribe's quartet of Gregory, Bir, junior
Amaya Johnson and Ervin finished sixth in the 4x400-meter relay. The group's time of 3:48.49 was the 10th fastest in W&M history and reached the ECAC qualifying standard.
Field Events
Long Jump
Sophomore
Megan Heidebrecht and Mitchell finished fifth and sixth, both with jumps among the best in school history. Heidebrecth's final attempt saw her jump 5.6m, which was the 10th-best mark in school history. Mitchell's third attempt of 5.59m stands as the 11th best in W&M history.
Shot Put
Sophomore
Keeley Suzenski finished third in a shot put, tossing a 14.84m (48-8.25) in her opening attempt. The distance was the third best in Tribe history, all owned by Suzenski, and easily met the ECAC qualifying standard.
Triple Jump
Heidebrecht and freshman
Dana Abraham both finished among the top 10 in the triple jump. Heidebrecht took fourth in the event with a jumper of 11.52m (37-9.5) in her first attempt, while Abraham was seventh.
