WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Women's swimming freshman
Sophia Heilen was named the William & Mary Student-Athlete of the Week presented by the Virginia Lottery on Tuesday.
Heilen was voted as this week's award winner by the Tribe fanbase via social media polls on both the @TribeAthletics Twitter and Instagram accounts. Men's soccer's Alexander Levengood, football's Ethan Chang, and field hockey's Maddie George were also honored as finalists for the weekly award.
Heilen took home a pair of first place finishes and finished second in two events in the Tribe's season-opening meet at UNCW last Sunday. The freshman swam a 2:04.77 time to capture first in the 200 fly and followed with a 55.78 time to take the gold in the 100 fly.
In her first ever collegiate race, Heilen helped the Tribe to a second place finish swimming the butterfly leg of the 200 medley relay. In her final event, the freshman swam a 2:10.00 200 IM to finish second to teammate
Ellie Scherer.
