- Since Elon joined the CAA in 2014-15, the Tribe is 11-6 against the Phoenix. W&M is 7-3 at Elon. Last season, the Phoenix swept the Tribe with victories in Williamsburg and North Carolina in a three-day stretch.
- In the Tribe's most recent game at Charleston on Tuesday, graduate student
Brandon Carroll turned in the best statistical game in the NCAA since 2010. He produced the first stat line of 16 points, nine rebounds, five blocked shots, six steals and an assist in a game over the last 12 years. His six-steal, five-block performance was the first in W&M history.
- Carroll has been on a tear of late, scoring 14 or more points in four of his last five games. Over that stretch, he is averaging 13.8 points, 7.2 rebounds, 2.6 steals and 2.0 blocked shots per game. In CAA play, he ranks 22nd in the league in scoring (12.0), 11th in rebounding (6.1) and third in steals (2.4).
- In back-to-back games, sophomore
Ben Wight recorded 20-point, 10-rebound double-doubles. He scored a career-high 21 points against both Delaware and Drexel, while adding 10 rebounds against the Blue Hens and 11 in the win over the Dragons. He is the only CAA player with two games of 20 points and 10 rebounds in league play and has three double-doubles overall on the year.
- Offensively, W&M has found its rhythm in CAA play. The Tribe has increased its production in scoring (74.9 points per game), field goal % (43.8), 3-point % (35.2) and 3-pointers made per game (8.3), all of which rank among the top five in the CAA. Those numbers are an improvement from the team's nonconference numbers of 61.4 points per game (+13.5), 39.9 field goal % (+3.9), 28.7 3-point % (+6.5) and 6.5 3-pointers made (+1.8).
- The Tribe has developed a balanced scoring attack in conference action. W&M has five players averaging double figures during the league slate, including four inside the CAA's top-25 scorers at 12 or more points per game. Wight leads the Tribe at 12.9 points per game in league play followed by sophomores
Yuri Covington (12.1) and
Connor Kochera (12.0), Carroll (12.0) and freshman
Julian Lewis (10.1).
- The Tribe, who has outrebounded six of its last 10 opponents, have increased in rebounding production in CAA play. W&M ranks second in league games in rebounds (38.3) and defensive boards (27.0), while ranking fourth in offensive rebounds (11.3) and fifth in rebounding margin (+0.3).
- Sophomore
Connor Kochera scored a season-high 23 points in the win at Drexel, including 19 in the second half. He came up with perhaps the biggest play of the game, drawing a charge with 52 seconds remaining after the Dragons had closed a 21-point lead to just three. Kochera also hit four free throws over the final 30 seconds to help put the game away. He currently ranks 18th in the CAA in scoring at 11.9 per game.
- Freshman
Julian Lewis is one of the top stat-stuffing first-year players in college basketball. He is one of only 17 first-year players nationally averaging seven points (7.0), four rebounds (4.3) and two assists (2.5). He has been even better in CAA play averaging 10.1 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game. In league play, Lewis ranks fifth in the CAA in assists, 14th in 3-point % (38.5) and 18th in rebounding.
- Wight has been the Tribe's most improved player in 2021-22. As a redshirt freshman last season, he averaged 4.4 points and 3.4 rebounds per game, while shooting 47.3%. His numbers have jumped to 11.8 points and six rebounds with a 62.3 field goal % this season. Wight ranks fourth in the CAA in field goal %, eighth in rebounding and 19th in scoring. In CAA games, he leads the league at 68.5% shooting.
- For the second-straight season, W&M ranks as one of the youngest teams in the country according to KenPom.com. After being the 34th youngest team in 2020-21, the Tribe is the 13th youngest team this season, averaging just 0.98 years of experience. W&M has started four freshmen and sophomores in each contest in 2021-22, including all five starters on seven occasions. The two classes have accounted for 78.5% of the team's minutes (3158-of-4025) and 79.6% of its scoring (1052-of-1322).
- In two of the first three weeks of the CAA season, a Tribe freshman was named the league's rookie of the week. Most recently,
Langdon Hatton earned the honor on Jan. 17 after producing his first career double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds against JMU.
Julian Lewis garnered the honor on Jan. 3 after averaging 12.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists in wins over Hofstra and Northeastern.
- Four former W&M players are either playing or coaching in the NBA. Nathan Knight '20, who signed with the Minnesota Timberwolves in the offseason, recently started his first career game on Dec. 27 vs. the Celtics and posted a 20 points and 11 rebounds. In 2020-21, he saw action in 33 games, averaging 3.8 points and 2.2 rebounds per game for the Eastern Conference Finalist Atlanta Hawks. Jim Moran '01 is an assistant coach with the Detroit Pistons. Sean Sheldon '16 is the San Antonio Spurs head video coordinator, and Daniel Dixon '17 is the Charlotte Hornets' assistant video coordinator.
