W&M News and Notes
- While the Tribe leads the all-time series with Charleston, 9-7, the Cougars hold a 6-1 advantage in Charleston. The teams did not meet last season due to CoVID-19, but have split the regular season meetings each of the last four years. W&M's only victory over CofC in Charleston was in 2016.

- In each of the Tribe's last two games, sophomore Ben Wight recorded 20-point, 10-rebound double-doubles. He scored a career-high 21 points against both Delaware and Drexel, while adding 10 rebounds against the Blue Hens and 11 in the win over the Dragons. He is the only CAA player with two games of 20 points and 10 rebounds in league play.

- Offensively, W&M has started to find its rhythm in CAA play. The Tribe has increased its production in scoring (74.2 points per game), field goal % (44.8), 3-point % (36.4) and 3-pointers made per game (8.5), all of which rank among the top five in the CAA. Those numbers are an improvement from the team's nonconference numbers of 61.4 points  per game(+12.8), 39.9 field goal % (+4.9), 28.7 3-point % (+7.7) and 6.5 3-pointers made (+2.0).

- In the Tribe's win over Drexel, graduate student Brandon Carroll produced his first double-double with the Green and Gold posting season-highs of 18 points and 10 rebounds to go with a career-high five steals. He has been a factor in CAA play, averaging 11.3 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game. Those numbers are up 7.3 points and 2.4 rebounds per game over the nonconference slate. He ranks 28th in league games in scoring, 13th in rebounding and fifth in steals.

- After outrebounding Drexel by nine on Saturday, the Tribe has outrebounded six of its last nine opponents, including four in CAA play. W&M has been one of the top rebounding teams in league play ranking second in defensive rebounds per game (26.2), third in total rebounds per game (37.3) and rebounding margin (+1.0) and fourth in offensive rebounds per game (11.2).

- Sophomore Connor Kochera scored a season-high 23 points at Drexel, including 19 in the second half. He came up with perhaps the biggest play of the game, drawing a charge with 52 seconds remaining after the Dragons had closed a 21-point W&M lead to just three. Kochera also hit four free throws over the final 30 seconds to help put the game away. He currently ranks 18th in the CAA in scoring at 11.9 per game.

- Freshman Julian Lewis is one of the top stat-stuffing first-year players in college basketball. He is one of only 19 first-year players nationally averaging six points (6.2), four rebounds (4.3) and two assists per game (2.4). He has been even better in CAA play averaging 10 points, 5.5 rebounds and three assists per game. In league play, Lewis ranks sixth in the CAA in assists and 15th in both 3-point % (39.1) and rebounding.

- Wight has been the Tribe's most improved player in 2021-22. As a redshirt freshman last season, he averaged 4.4 points and 3.4 rebounds per game, while shooting 47.3% from the floor. His numbers have jumped to 11.7 points and six rebounds per game and a field goal % of 62 this season. Wight ranks fourth in the CAA in field goal %, eighth in rebounding and 19th in scoring.

- During the league portion of the schedule, sophomore Yuri Covington is averaging 12 points per game, which ranks 24th in the league. He is also shooting 43.5% from 3 and 80% from the free throw line, which rank 11th and 10th in the CAA, respectively. He erupted for a career-high 29 points against JMU.

- For the second-straight season, W&M ranks as one of the youngest teams in the country according to KenPom.com. After being the 34th youngest team in 2020-21, the Tribe is the 13th youngest team this season, averaging just 0.98 years of experience. W&M has started four freshmen and sophomores in each contest in 2021-22, including all five starters on seven occasions. The two classes have accounted for 78.2% of the team's minutes (2993-of-3825) and 79.7% of its scoring (995-of-1249).

- In two of the first three weeks of the CAA season, a Tribe freshman was named the league's rookie of the week. Most recently, Langdon Hatton earned the honor on Jan. 17 after producing his first career double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds against JMU. Julian Lewis garnered the honor on Jan. 3 after averaging 12.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists in wins over Hofstra and Northeastern.

- Four former W&M players are either playing or coaching in the NBA. Nathan Knight '20, who signed with the Minnesota Timberwolves in the offseason, recently started his first career game on Dec. 27  vs. the Celtics and posted a 20 points and 11 rebounds.  In 2020-21, he saw action in 33 games, averaging 3.8 points and 2.2 rebounds per game for the Eastern Conference Finalist Atlanta Hawks. Jim Moran '01 is an assistant coach with the Detroit Pistons. Sean Sheldon '16 is the San Antonio Spurs head video coordinator, and Daniel Dixon '17 is the Charlotte Hornets' assistant video coordinator.
