TOWSON, Md. – The William & Mary women's gymnastics team opened its season with a fourth-place finish at a quad meet hosted by Towson on Friday evening.
The host Tigers claimed the team title with a 194.150 and were followed by West Virginia (194.000), West Chester (192.600) and W&M (191.075).
A pair of freshmen highlighted the Tribe's individual performances, as
Caroline Blatchford placed fourth in all-around (38.450) and
Sarah Kuper tied for fourth on bars (9.725).
Event Highlights
Vault, 47.800 – Blatchford and
Catherine Bare led W&M on vault with a 9.625, while
Chloe Campbell and
Emma Wiley contributed to the team score with a 9.525.
Bars, 47.550 – In addition to Kuper's fourth-place finish on bars (9.725),
Sarah Wozniak (9.675) and Blatchford (9.650) also recorded top-10 efforts by placing eighth and ninth, respectively.
Beam, 47.575 –
Keaghan Schafer led the Tribe on beam with a 9.675, which placed 10th, while Blatchford earned a 9.650.
Floor, 48.150 – Bare registered W&M's top score on floor with a 9.725, while Schafer (9.675), Campbell (9.625) and
Sophie Chandler (9.600) also contributed to the team total.
All-Around – Blatchford was the Tribe's only all-arounder and placed fourth with a 38.450 in her collegiate debut.
