Women's Soccer Hosts No. 12 Georgetown on Saturday Night

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Fresh off a 1-0 win over East Carolina, William & Mary women's soccer closes out the homestand by hosting No. 12-ranked George Washington on Saturday night. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. from Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field.

All Tribe home matches will be streamed on FloFC. Things to Know

- The Tribe leads the all-time series with Georgetown at 8-1, including a win in the most recent meeting, 3-0, in 2015 at the JMU Invite. The Hoyas lone win in the series came at home 2-1 in overtime during the 2011 season. Georgetown travels to Williamsburg for the first time since the Tribe picked up a 3-1 win over the No. 13-ranked Hoyas in 2011.

- Georgetown enters the match ranked No. 12 in the country by Top Drawer Soccer and No. 25 by the United Soccer Coaches. The Hoyas are 3-0-4 on the year and are coming off a 1-0 win vs. Rutgers. Last season, the Hoyas finished the year at 12-0-2. They earned the No. 13 seed in the NCAA Tournament and advanced to the round of 16.

- After having its match with VCU on Sept. 9 canceled due to COVID-19 protocols, the Tribe picked up a thrilling 1-0 win over East Carolina on Sept. 12. Junior Kayleigh Shackford scored the game's only goal in the 17th minute, firing a beautiful shot upper 90 from 25 yards out.
 
- In the win over the Pirates, W&M posted its first clean sheet of the season. Sophomore Grace Lemley played a spotless first half making a save before freshman Morgan Wood made her collegiate debut and stopped five shots in the final 45 minutes, including two from close range.
 
- Shackford leads the Tribe and ranks 10th in the CAA in goals with two. Along with her game-winner vs. ECU, she converted a penalty kick in the Tribe's season-opening win at American.
 
- The Tribe roster consists mainly of freshmen and sophomores with 18 of the 30 student-athletes coming from those two classes. In total 15 of those 18 have seen game action in 2021, including eight that have earned starts. In total, eight of W&M's 10 freshmen have seen action.

- W&M alumna Kathy Carter '91 was recently elevated to chief executive of the Organizing Committee for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Los Angeles. She previously served as the Chief Revenue Officer of LA28 since 2018. Carter, who earned her degree in government, was a standout goalie for the Tribe from 1987-90 and still holds the school record of a 0.78 goals-against-average.
 
- The Tribe has enjoyed great success in the classroom recently. As a team, W&M sports a 3.53 cumulative GPA, following a 3.6 semester in the spring. In total, 30 W&M student-athletes earned CAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll distinction last year and 23 received W&M Provost Award honors with a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
