WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — William & Mary women's soccer returns to Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field for a pair of nonconference matches this week, hosting Liberty on Thursday, Sept. 3, and VCU on Sunday, Sept. 6.
The Tribe and Flames kick off Thursday at 7 p.m., with the match streaming on FloCollege. W&M will then celebrate Senior Day on Sunday when it welcomes VCU for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
Clear Bag Policy and Metal Detectors
Furthering its commitment to a first class and secure environment at home athletic events, William & Mary has implemented the use of walk-through metal detectors at the entrances to athletic venues (both ticketed and non-ticketed events). This enhanced security method mirrors standard practice at most major professional and intercollegiate athletic events throughout the country and compliments the Clear Bag Policy already in place. Fans will proceed through metal detectors prior to having their tickets scanned or entering a venue for non-tickets events. Entrants will not need to remove items such as belts, cell phones, coins, jackets, jewelry, watches, wallets, shoes or other small objects. If additional screening is necessary, security staff will ask the individual to proceed to a secondary screening area, where they will be asked to divest themselves of certain items and pass through again until clear.
THE TRIBE. William & Mary enters the week at 0-3-1 following a pair of setbacks against Virginia Tech and Appalachian State. The Tribe fell to the Hokies, 3-1, in its home opener Thursday before dropping a 2-1 decision at App State on Sunday. W&M led the Mountaineers 1-0 with less than six minutes remaining before App State scored twice late.
Through four matches, the Tribe has scored five goals on 41 shots, putting 20 attempts on frame. W&M has also generated 18 corner kicks.
ABBEY ON THE ATTACK. Sophomore midfielder Mia Abbey has recorded at least one point in each of W&M's first four matches. Abbey found the back of the net in each of the Tribe's first three games before assisting on Ellie Leffler's goal at App State on Sunday.
Abbey leads the Tribe with three goals, one assist and seven points. She also paces W&M with 11 shots and seven shots on goal.
LEFFLER FINDS THE NET. Sophomore forward Ellie Leffler scored her first goal of the season in the 78th minute at App State on Sunday. Abbey assisted on the goal, which gave the Tribe a 1-0 advantage.
The reigning CAA Rookie of the Year has recorded five shots in three appearances this season, putting three attempts on goal.
SECOND-HALF SUCCESS. Four of William & Mary's five goals this season have come after halftime. The Tribe has also generated 22 of its 41 shots and 13 of its 18 corner kicks during the second half.
THE FLAMES. Liberty enters Thursday's matchup at 3-2-1 following a 2-0 home victory over Charlotte on Sunday. The Flames have also picked up victories over VCU and East Carolina and earned a 2-2 road draw against Virginia Tech.
Liberty is 1-2-1 on the road this season and has received goals from six different players.
TRIBE VS. FLAMES. William & Mary leads the all-time series with Liberty, 2-1. The two programs last met on Aug. 29, 2019, when the Flames earned a 4-2 victory in Lynchburg.
Liberty's last trip to Williamsburg came on Sept. 2, 2018, with the Tribe earning a 2-1 victory.
SENIOR DAY. William & Mary will celebrate six members of its senior class prior to Sunday's match against VCU. The Tribe will recognize Ava Lewis, Ava Marvin, Ava Schultz, Lindsay Wilson, Molly Widderich and Paige Seitz.
Lewis is pursuing a bachelor's degree in human health and physiology, while Marvin is double majoring in environment and sustainability and public policy. Schultz is pursuing a bachelor's degree in international relations, and Wilson is double majoring in finance and psychology. Widderich is pursuing a master's degree in public policy after already graduating with a degree in public policy, while Seitz is pursuing a bachelor's degree in finance with a concentration in accounting.
THE RAMS. VCU enters the week at 0-5-1 overall and 0-3-1 away from home. The Rams are coming off a 6-0 road setback against No. 2 Duke on Sunday.
VCU has faced several familiar opponents early in the season, earning a 1-1 draw against UNCW while falling 1-0 to Liberty and 4-1 at Elon.
TRIBE VS. RAMS. William & Mary holds a 21-7-4 advantage in the all-time series against VCU. The Tribe earned a 2-1 road victory in the most recent meeting on Aug. 29, 2024.
VCU last visited Williamsburg on Aug. 27, 2023, when the two teams played to a 1-1 draw.
