Men's Cross Country Races to Third at Virginia Invitational

EARLYSVILLE, Va. – William & Mary men's cross country placed two runners among the top 10 and finished third at the Virginia Invitational on Friday evening at Panorama Farms.
 
Individually, junior Jacob Jones and sophomore Sam Pritchard led the way for the Green and Gold, placing ninth and 10th, respectively. As a team, the Tribe, ranked No. 15 in the Southeast region, topped a higher-ranked regional foe in No. 14 East Carolina, who was fifth with 134 points.
 
Navy (No. 5 in the Mid-Atlantic Region) and Virginia (No. 7 in the Southeast Region) finished first and second in the team standings with 31 and 38 points respectively. W&M (79) was followed by High Point (80), East Carolina (134), Norfolk State (174), Marshall (211) and Longwood (242).
 
Jones covered the 8K course in 24:56.5 to take ninth. Sitting in 19th at the 5K mark, he ran past 10 competitors to earn a top-10 finish. Pritchard finished right behind his teammate, and after sitting in 12th at the first 3K mark, he improved one position at the 5K mark and one more to the finish, claiming 10th overall in a time of 24.57.5.
 
Sophomore Tyler Lipps was the third Tribe finisher, coming in 14th. He improved three positions over the final 3K of the race and ran a time of 25:03.7.
 
Sophomore Patrick North and graduate student Spencer Tsai gave the Tribe five runners among the top 30 and rounded out the team's scoring group. North finished 24th at 25:42.6, improving eight positions over the final 3K. Tsai jumped four spots over the final 3K, running a 25:44.0 to claim 27th.
 
Sophomore Andrew Lagattuta (26:18.9) finished in 40th position followed by junior Stephen Larson (26:29.5) in 42nd, sophomore Harrison Vives (26:31.3) in 43rd and junior Ryan McCracken (26:55.2) in 47th to round out the Tribe's runners at the event.
 
W&M will have two weeks of training before it returns to action at the Paul Short Run, hosted by Lehigh, on Friday, Oct. 1.
