RICHMOND, Va. – William & Mary field hockey senior
Cara Menges was named to Preseason All-CAA and the Tribe was picked third in the preseason poll released by the league on Monday.
Juniors
Tabby Billingham and
Sally Snead joined Menges in earning preseason recognition, being selected to the CAA's honorable mention list.
Menges was one of 11 players named to the preseason team, while Billingham and Snead were among nine on the honorable mention list. As a team, the Tribe came in behind James Madison (4) and Delaware (2), while Drexel, Northeastern and Hofstra and Towson (tied for sixth) followed the Green and Gold to round out the preseason rankings.
Menges earned All-CAA First Team honors last spring. The midfielder has started all 44 matches of her career and owns eight goals and 10 assists. Menges became the 21st player in program history to earn multiple all-region honors garnering NFHCA Second Team accolades last spring.
Both Billingham and Snead earned All-CAA Second Team honors last spring. A defender, Billingham has started 24 matches over her two seasons with the Tribe. Snead scored her first collegiate goal in the Tribe's win over Towson last spring and also has two assists during her freshman season.
Last season, the Tribe was 3-2 in a COVID-shortened spring campaign. The Green and Gold finished second in the CAA regular season thanks to a 2-0 upset of No. 20-ranked Delaware at home. W&M dropped a 1-0 decision in the rematch with the Blue Hens in the CAA Semifinals in Delaware.
The Tribe will host a pair of scrimmages against local competition this week. The Green and Gold welcomes Christopher Newport on Thursday, Aug. 19, at 9 a.m., before hosting Old Dominion on Sunday, Aug. 22, at 1 p.m. W&M kicks off the regular-season at home against Big Ten foe Penn State on Sunday, Aug. 29, at 11 a.m.
