The William & Mary swimming programs once again doubled up team academic honors from the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America on Tuesday, the 16th-consecutive semester that both teams have been honored for excellence in the classroom.
The Tribe women had a 3.68 team GPA this spring, the 37th time overall and 23rd-straight time that W&M has earned the team academic award for having a GPA over 3.0. The Tribe was a perfect 4-0 in the regular season, the finish undefeated mark since 1970-71, and finished second at the CAA Championships. On the men's side, the Green and Gold had a GPA over 3.63, 10th-best in the nation and third-best among all public universities. This is the 16th semester in a row and 28th time overall that the men's swimming team has been recognized by the CSCAA. Only seven universities nationwide (including W&M) had both their men's and women's teams hold GPAs over 3.63.
The swimming teams' performances were just part of another outstanding semester overall for Tribe athletes in the classroom. Nineteen of 21 teams (indoor and outdoor track & field counting as one each) had over a 3.2 GPA this semester, including 11 over 3.5. The Tribe also had a record number of Provost Award recipients, with 231 athletes maintaining over a 3.5 career GPA.
