RALEIGH, N.C. – The William & Mary women's gymnastics team opened its season with a fourth-place finish at a quad meet hosted by NC State on Friday evening.
Oklahoma, which entered the meet with the nation's fourth-best average, claimed the team title with a 197.475 and was followed by NC State (196.125), George Washington (193.600) and W&M (189.450).
Freshman
Grace Costello highlighted the Tribe's individual performances in her collegiate debut with a third-place finish in all-around (38.650), while senior
Katie Waldman posted the team's top score in three of the four events.
Event Highlights
Vault, 48.325 – Waldman led the way on vault with a 9.750, while senior
Mary Graceyn Gordon recorded a 9.725.
Bars, 46.175 – Waldman earned the Tribe's top score on bars with a 9.675, while Gordon and Costello both tallied a 9.600.
Beam, 46.500 – Costello and Gordon registered the team's best two scores on beam with a 9.675 and 9.500, respectively.
Floor, 48.450 – The Tribe's best team score of the meet came on floor where it earned a 48.450. Waldman totaled a 9.775, while Costello earned a 9.725.
All-Around – In addition to Costello's third-place finish in all-around (38.650), Waldman (38.450) and Gordon (38.400) also competed in all four events and placed fourth and fifth, respectively.

W&M will return to action when it hosts Towson for its home opener at Kaplan Arena on Sunday at 2 p.m. The competition will be a double dual with the Tribe's men's program, as it will host Navy.
