WILLIAMSBURG, VA.- William & Mary volleyball will complete the regular season with a pair of matches this weekend at Delaware. The Tribe and Blue Hens will get together for 1:00 p.m. starts on Saturday and Sunday afternoon.
The matches will mark the final time wearing the Green and Gold for six Tribe seniors that have contributed immensely to the program over the past four years.
Julia Brown,
Madeleine Bertz,
Claire Farrell,
Lauren Merrill,
Anne Louise Seekford, and
Kate Van Houten will be honored along with Delaware's senior class before Sunday's match.
What You Need To Know
William & Mary and Delaware did not face each other last season due to the Covid shortened season, but each won 3-0 at home to split a pair of contests in 2019.
Lauren Merrill was outstanding in the Tribe's 2019 victory producing a 13 kill, 15 dig double-double while
Julia Brown added four kills to go with five blocks.
With a solid defensive weekend,
Lauren Merrill has an opportunity to reach 500 career digs. The Texas native currently sits just 15 digs away from the milestone and needs just two kills to hit the 600 mark.
Last weekend, freshman
Amy Schwem passed the 500 assist mark on the season and enters Saturday's match with 505 overall.
Julia Brown passed the 900-kill mark in her career last weekend and enters her final week of collegiate volleyball with 914 kills (fourth in Tribe history under the current scoring format).
Maddie Meyers reached the 100 dig milestone last weekend, while
Anna Porter dug ball number 700 in her young career on Sunday. Porter ranks seventh in Tribe history with 723 digs in 55 matches.
Sophomore middle blocker
Sabrina Malcolm hit the 100-career kill mark last weekend and has 109 in just 20 matches.
Julia Brown enters this weekend hitting .336 on the season. If that number holds, it will go down as the single best hitting percentage of any Tribe player under the current scoring format. Brown's 3.10 kill per set ratio is on pace to be the fifth best of any Tribe player in the current scoring age.
Coming into the weekend,
Anna Porter is averaging 0.29 service aces per set which would be good for the second best by any Tribe player since the 2008 season.
With 505 assists with two matches to play,
Amy Schwem has a chance to record the 10th most assists by any Tribe setter, and the most by a freshman since the 2016 season. Schwem is on pace with 8.42 assists per frame to have the second best freshman season under the current scoring format behind Autumn Brenner's 2016 campaign.
