BOONE, N.C. — A career-high 24 kills from
Audrey Brcka lifted William & Mary volleyball to a 3-1 win over North Florida on the final day of the Mountaineer Classic on Sunday. After dropping the first set 22-25, the Tribe (4-5) won the next three by scores of 28-26, 25-20, and 25-22.
W&M erased a 7-5 deficit in the first set, using a
Katherine Arnason kill, a
Teagan Pocius block, and back-to-back Brcka kills to move ahead 10-8.
The Ospreys (5-4) answered with five straight points for a 13-10 lead, and although William & Mary got back to 13-13 and later tied it at 18-18 on an
Olivia Westfort kill, the Ospreys closed out the set 25-22.
The second set took extra time, with W&M answering the Ospreys' late leads at 24-23, 25-24, and 26-25.
The Tribe finished strong, scoring the final three points to take the set, 28-26. Westfort's kill from
Cate Hatfield tied the set at 24-24, and after UNF went back in front at 26-25, the Tribe pulled even on an attack error.
Brcka followed with a kill from Hatfield for a 27-26 lead, and another attack error by UNF closed the set.
After the Ospreys moved ahead 19-18 late in set three, William & Mary won seven of the final eight rallies to win it, 25-20. Brcka put down kills for points at 20-19 and 22-20, while
Emily McKee added two kills in the final three points, including the set-ending swing from
Avery Horejsi.
The Tribe turned a 2-3 deficit into a 7-4 lead early in the fourth set, helped by a McKee kill and a block from McKee and Westfort.
After the Ospreys later pulled within 23-22, Brcka put W&M at set point with a kill before Arnason finished the job with a kill of her own, giving the Tribe a 25-22 win.
