Box Score HARRISONBURG, VA.- William & Mary volleyball held JMU to just 34 kills but could not overcome offensive struggles in a 3-0 loss to the Dukes Sunday afternoon. Six Tribe players had kills in the match.
Julia Brown led the way with seven.
Brown was a factor on the defensive side of the net amassing four blocks.
Sydney Taylor produced three blocks and
Lauren Merrill and
Sabrina Malcolm each had a pair.
Anna Porter had a team-high five digs and chipped in three assists.
Amy Schwem had 13 assists in two sets played and
Kate Van Houten recorded four assists and a kill.
The first set was tight early as James Madison held a 5-4 lead, but the Dukes would score eight of the next nine points to create a seven point lead. The Tribe held JMU to just 11 kills in the opening frame and had five different players record a kill, but it would not be enough as James Madison held on for a 25-19 set win.
The Dukes kept the pressure on the Tribe in the second set scoring eight of the first nine points in the frame. James Madison did not slow down taking advantage of 13 attack errors from the Tribe in a 25-7 win.
The Tribe would bounce back racing out to a 7-0 lead in set three but it would not last as James Madison rallied to tie the set 9-9. The Dukes would eventually take a hold on the frame and coast to a 25-18 match clinching win.
UP NEXT: The Tribe will begin a four match homestand next weekend welcoming in Towson for a pair of contests beginning Friday night. The two teams will face off again Saturday evening in Kaplan Arena.
