Box Score HARRISONBURG, VA.- Offensive struggles proved costly for William & Mary as the Tribe fell 3-0 to James Madison Saturday afternoon.
Julia Brown was the only player for the Green and Gold to reach double-digit kills and the team hit -.097 in the loss.
The first set was a game of momentum swings as both teams put together nice runs of play.
Lauren Merrill led the match off with a kill from the pin but JMU would grab the next three points before a four-point run gave the Tribe a 5-3 edge. Madison would answer with a five-point stretch of their own to give the Dukes a three point lead. Tied at 14-14 the home team took another five-point run to get separation and eventually take a 25-17 win. Brown was the bright spot in the frame, downing five kills on eight swings, but the Tribe only managed nine kills as a team in the opener.
JMU came out hot in the second frame, winning 14 of the first 15 points. The Tribe would battle but would be unable to catch the Dukes as James Madison took a 25-8 second frame.
In the third, James Madison once again took an early lead but the Tribe would battle back to tie the set at 11-11. However, once again JMU would make a run taking five of the next six points to gain separation. The Tribe battled back, cutting James Madison's lead to 21-20 but the Dukes closed out the match with a 25-21 win.
Madeleine Bertz made her season debut after dealing with injuries dating back to the preseason. The senior recorded one kill in her one set of action.
Anne Louise Seekford was the Tribe's second leading attacker with eight kills and six digs, while Merrill had seven kills and seven digs.
Amy Schwem dished out 21 assists in the losing effort.
